GPU memory : 4 or 8 GB any difference?

Hi

Is there a difference between a GPU with 4 or 8 GB of memory?

In other words : Is C1 needing a lot of GPU memory?

    I recently swapped from an 8GB R9 390 to a 4GB R9 Fury - no difference

    I'm no expert on things GPU, but wouldn't things outside of C1 also come into play, like which monitor your running?

    Typically it will cache more 'pre-rendered' images with more vram, but if your CPU/GPU/SSD combo are fast enough you may not notice this benefit.

    Thanks, already used GPU-Z often to check the GPU Load forgot about the memory parameter.

    On my 2GB card I see a usage of max. 1.3GB, where approx. 1GB is added when I start C1 and browse slowly through some images. Zooming or scrolling inside a image has no extra visible impact on memory usage. (24 and 36MB images)

    Memory doesn't spike above 3770MB for me (it's already just under 2GB in windows before opening C1)

    It seems that the GPU memeory is used. Is there somebody with a 8GB GPU that could run the test to?

    If my memory didn't top out, so not sure why you'd need to run with 8GB card too.. I doubt it will breach 4GB

    Well on my 2Gb RAM GPU 1GB was used, on you're 4 GB RAM GPU almost 2GB was used, but neither topped out. For me it's normal that memory is not topped out. I'm really curious to the amount RAM that's used on 8Gb card.

    If you were running an 8K display, I'd say an 8GB card was probably a must.

    Well only 2560*1440 + 1600*1200 and the difference to you're 4K explains the difference in RAM usage.

    I run 2 setups, desktop with 8gb card and a laptop with integrated graphics. I don't notice a difference when working with capture one even when going through my session library with 50mp files.

    that mainly depends on your display resolution and the resolution of your preview files (and which other programs you're using in the background)

    I have an RX580 8GB card and two 4k displays. There is a big difference in the speed of processing jpg exports. Two images were over 25 seconds without the GPU and 8 seconds with. I am VERY frustrated, however, with the speed of C1 v11 on the loupe magnification view delay and processing edits into the preview. C1 v10 was MUCH better at this.

    It is taking 4-8 seconds each time up I pull up an image in the viewer. I used to pull up 4-5 images and use the space-shift mouse wheel to zoom in on all of them QUICKLY.

    Any hints on what is up?

    Have you ran a test on the amount of memory used of the 8GB card? See previous post to get the method of viewing the amount of memory used.


    The Memory test shows between 5GB and 6.2GB used. If I open C1 v11 it jumps by about 1GB. So I have close to 2GB spare.

    I am going to install Windows 10 and get the newest drivers. If it still crashes C1 and is SLOOOOW using the loupe then I am dumping this AMD card and going Nvidia. UGH.
