Focus Tool wanted
Hi,
is the "Focus tool" from the "old" 3.7 version a 4 PRO feature? I ask because it is absolutely useful to have it while shooting tethered with a Digital Back, just to check the focus while previewving the full image.
Thank you.

Hi Alan,
What is it specifically that you're after? What is the Focus Tool in CO3.7? Do you mean the floating focus window in CO3.7Pro?
I ask because I think that what you want is already in CO4 (with tethered support in the upcoming Pro) and you did not find it yet or I do not understand you properly.0 -
I think what AlanRei is asking for is a way to view the full image and a portion of the image at 100% at the same time either on the same screen or on two different monitors.
I agree this is a very useful feature0 -

Exactly, an extremely useful function! My example for FlexColor is because in this software you can have multiple "focus portions" in the same time. But it is ok the function in C1 3.7 Pro, I just want to know if C1 4 Pro has the same kind of function.
Anyone from PhaseOne can answer this?
Thank you.

The question is " real " focus tool.
What the preview is now is a real focus tool.
If you scale to 100% you have a true 1:1 focus.
When it comes to navigation like you did in the old software, have you tried the new way?
Make sure you have a mighty mouse with two buttons.
Zoom to 100% (double click on image when you have a hand tool)
Hold down space bar and right click on image, now you get a small navigation window.
All photographers I have demoed this to are quite ecstatic over this new feature. I hope you are as well. 😄0 -

Hi Ulf,
I like this feature very much indeed. I discoverd this by accident in the beta already. I do not use the space bar. Just right click in the zoomed in image is enough (for me at least).
To add: there are different ways to go to 100% view. One is to double click with the cursor as Pan tool in the viewer image; a second double click goes back to best fit. Another method is the zoom slider. The third is the right symbol of the zoom slider (the left symbol returns to best fit); the advantage here is you don't have to select the Pan tool first. Fourth, the Navigator pane (Details tab), context menu (little triangle).0 -

Ulf, I think you didn't get the question. How can we see the entire image AND a 100%crop of the SAME image at the SAME time.
If you scale to 100% you have a true 1:1 focus.
As a "workaround" you can set a clone variant and view both of them at the same time - like this:

But I'm quite sure that no one wants to set a clone variant after each shot when you shoot tethered.
On the other hand... this works well on my 24'' display. But not on a small display of a laptop that is obviously more useful if you shoot tethered on location. All photographers I have demoed this to are quite ecstatic over this new feature. I hope you are as well.
No kidding? If the navigation window would be straight under the mouse, it would be fast. But as I have to move the mouse to the right anyhow I can just as well move to the navigation window in the tools pane. Okay, for some it might be very welcome others don't care about. But it's an idea with regard to adjusments and it's not really useful for tetehered shooting. Don't you think so?

Interesting. I will bring this forward.
When it comes to tethered shooting I do not completely agree. This depends on who you ask and what kind of photography we are talking about.
If we take fashion shooting with a photographer, digital tech and a AD. the 3.7 layout does not work that well. Problem you have is that images keep coming in and the tech can not check focus. With the new system you can hit enter and hold frame as compare item.
Now this allows you to check focus on the single frame while other comes in.
What might be good here, if I am understanding correctly, is also a floating window so the image can be full screen while the ability to have a focus window?0 -

Thanks, Ulf! I just put in a feature request for PRO which is already confirmed... the request 😊

But it's certainly good if you double this. When it comes to tethered shooting I do not completely agree. This depends on who you ask and what kind of photography we are talking about. ...
Yes, got it ... makes sense! What might be good here, if I am understanding correctly, is also a floating window so the image can be full screen while the ability to have a focus window?
That's it! Full image for compostion and additional (floating) window for accurate focus control.
Thank you!
Best Regards.
edit: here I was way to fast, sorry! The navigation tool is very good if you are eg. in the exposure tab or somewhere without navigation window. I was in the sharpening tab when I tried it... and there is a navigation window in the tools pane.0 -

I'm a digital tech and usually I use the focus tool to check focus while the photographer is shooting (very fast usually). I liked the way 3.7 was working because on a fast computer it is possible to check the focus while the pictures are coming. Of course I like to stop on a image while the others are coming in, but the fact is that we prefer to see a "rough" full image AND a small portion fully focused at 100%. I think this is the best way to work in fashion photography, so I hope to get a sort of mix of the features from C1 3.7 (rough full image + 100% small portion) and C1 4 (ability to stop on a picture while others are coming).
Thank you.

I'm jumping on this thread as I guess this will be the closest to my needs.
Sorry if I'm making a mistake.
I have to operate a H25 to shoot art not easily accessible, for example paintings high in churches. A pneumatic mast will be used to bring the camera up. The lens is a non autofocus telephoto lens (autofocus ones are too short fort this job) but a motor and belt rotating the barrel, remote controlled from the ground, will allow to remotely control the manual focus of the lens. But then I need to control that the focus is right, from the ground.
So my questions are:
Will Capture One 4 give me 100% live preview so I can focus properly with the H25? Will previous versions of Capture One allow this also?
If not, an upgrade to a more recent digital back will have to be made. Does the P series allow this or only P+?
Just to be sure I understand the idea of "Live Preview": it means I can see the image 100% coming from the back through firewire to Capture One without having to actually shoot anything, does it? What is the refreshment rate?
Thanks
Greg0
