    Hi,

I've switched from LR to C1 recently and your RAW developer feels more natural to use. However the only thing I'm bummed out about is the vignetting tool. While what it does looks natural for what it offers, it'd be great to have advanced control over the vignette shape, such as roundness, midpoint and feathering(/blurring) for artistic effect.

    Thanks for considering.

    Welcome,

Being a User to User forum you may or may not have luck with this request.

If you want to be a bit more certain about making you voice fully heard the advice is to put your request into a formal Support Case where it will be sure to attract attention and be matched up with any similar requests and so add to the likelihood of being considered.

That is usually the official word for such ideas.

Meanwhile it may be worth mentioning that you can produce all sort of vignette effects using adjustment layers if you need something immediately. You could also save them as User Presets.

Using an adjustments layer was also my trick to offer, but Grant did that already. Let us know whether you need any assistance on that.

@Grant, how do you manage to preset an adjustments layer? 😕

    Hi Paul,

As far as I know you cannot set a preset for an adjustment layer ... but there may be some ways to work around that - probably not very elegant.

What one could do though is generate some basic variations on the available Vignette options in the vignette tool to obtain some favourite starting points. As I typed that started to wonder how stacking presets might work.

I'm not sure that heavily "creative" presets work well and if one really wants to do the artistic thing in reality it may be more typical to move out of C1 into a different product on the basis of what is available today.

Using Adjustment layer one might need to do some structured cheating.

If it was possible to define some "favourite" vignette presets within an adjustment layer concept they could be saved as part of an original image. Copying the settings for the saved image and applying to the image being edited would allow the adjustment layer to be copied and applied to new variants. Close to being the equivalent of a preset. However it might be a challenge to manage the variants easily.

I have not tried the theory - but it could be an interesting project.

I had a quick play with the potential of the suggestions above.

Stacking Styles (or more realistically presets) of vignettes may be a touch challenging for controlled results.

However one can create a selection of base vignettes to apply using those functions.

One can also create adjustment layers in other "images" that have the effect of vignettes, save those images somewhere readily accessible and then copy and apply the layer(s) from the original to the new target file. With a little pre-planning there seems to be potential for creative vignettes.

There may also be some potential using "lcc" files as the basis for light fall off type adjustments - or even some creative colour vignetting.

More realistically perhaps just painting a vignette in an adjustment layer as and when required might make the most sense.
