Should I Install V9?

Download a trial version of v9 and test it out before you commit. I shoot Canon and don't shoot tethered so can't advise on your specific situation. There are, however, a few bugs I'm aware of, specifically relating to the xmp auto full sync function and crashing when using the keyword library. But give it a test and see how it works for you.

Have a look at all the posts about problems in this forum.
If you use it professionally I would say 'No'. It appears to have quiet a few bugs. As so often with software, it seems wise to skip the .0 release and wait for at least one or two updates.

If you have time to play beta-tester or want to try out the new features, then you can install it next to version 8 and try it out with a new catalog or a copy of an existing catalog.

i advice you to install the demo bevor paying money.
every vendors Developers have Bugs in there software, but this one is very famous " only my experience"
since i bayed C1 7 and upgrade to C1 8 i did't really find no alternative to the old Aperture, i found my self for paying only money to fix Bugs ...but Phase One are doing great slowly developing jobs, very sorry for this disappointment. for me C1 is only a RAW converter and nothing els .
the Market are right now not showing good alternativ to Aperture even Apple made here a very big mistake .
this is a good criticism for Good new Idea " The user need a complete solution in one software"
i am using Nikon Kameras and after C1 9 realized just changed my workflow by using NX-D with Affinity Photo.

I agree. I like the new features, but I'm finding the software to be nearly unusable (beyond testing and playing).

I'm my limited experience with CO, this seems very common. CO is finicky software with bugs in new releases (more than would be expected of professional software) and its own mindset for how tools should work.

I am one of many Aperture users looking for an alternative beyond Lightroom.

I also would agree with Harold. There are major activation and support issues the company has not resolved, much less any bugs in the release itself. If you just want to play, play with the trial. If you are using this for professional use, I would say no. If you do use this side by side with CO8, do not update any of your prior work so you can see it in version 9. It will be lost once you do that. Just trust me on that.

I have loved Capture One and used it since version 7. I had no issues with the version 8 upgrade, but I did wait a while to actually upgrade. As I purchased CO9 full version upon release to utilize the 3 seats, I did not expect to have issues other than the normal new release bugs and I would just keep the versions separate until I was satisfied all was well. Such was not to be. I have posted elsewhere in other treads regarding the activation nightmare I am going through.

As of Monday, if not resolved, I am just going to bite the bullet and delete the software. I will request a documented refund of my payment and if not responded to, I will proceed with my CC company. There is no alternative at this point as I run a photography studio and cannot expend any more lost time to this futile effort. I find this not only frustrating but sad that a company with an actual quality product can so lack in the very basic marketing concept called customer service or Tech Support.

Up Date: Per my updates on other posts regarding the activation issue, that has been resolved, at least for my account to allow activation. YMMV. As respects being an early adaptor, all else still applies. Any new release has bugs/issues, and it is a horrible time to try to get tech support. If you use this professionally, use what you already know works and enjoy the benefits of the release at your leisure. I am sure there will be dot releases shortly that will address some of the bug issues mentioned in other threads and resulting in a quality version. I would not have bought it in the first place if I had thought otherwise.

there is no support for c1 8.x under el capitain and some defects in c1 8.x that don´t appear under yosimite. if i had known that before I would have updated neither the one nor the other.

I suggest you to have a deeper looker on C1.
Mostly all problems started with El Capitan where Apple looks like ruined OpenCL, so I forced to turn it off.
On 9 release it looks like glitches to that issue are gone, at least for my 3 machines.
But of course I've updated only 1 machine at first with a trial to give it a try.

Conservative user may wait, till 1 more minor release of C1 9. But for me it is stable as rock.

Personally I do not understand why people running away from Lightroom because of subscription, I've done that because I was completely unsatisfied with image quality that LR provided for Nikon D4s files while working perfect for older cameras.

All, open support cases with PO and post here(this forum) your issues, that you are having, and lets try to sort them out. 😄

    Hello,

I'm using Capture One on a Mac that is tethered to a Nikon. I am currently running Yosemite because El Capitain is not behaving with Nikon and Leica tethering. Will I be ok moving up to v9 of C1?

Just install it and try if it works on you'r system.

The argument that V9 isn't worth installing due to posts regarding issues is flawed to say the least.

Do you think that all the people whom it does work for without any problems posts just to say so ?

No of course not, but the people who have problem tends to be the most vocal, and also bring it up numerous times.

So again install it and try it and see if it works for you with your setup, and if you have any issues create a ticket and get it sorted.

As for the people claiming v9 is only for beta testers and it's not suitable for professional use...

I have V9 installed and it works flawless on my systems. Of course i haven't upgraded to El capitan as i use ACC and need it to perform without any issues.

Yesterday i had shoot where it actually ran C1Pro 9 on a MBA 13" from 2011.. two cameras tethered and Capture pilot running so the client could rate and sort images live on a ipad. This without a hitch, despite the somewhat outdated hardware it ran on.

Of course i have version 8 installed as well as LRCC if something should go wrong, but that is redundancy that every professional should have in place.
