Working with metadata/IPTC
Hello.
I’m trying to add IPTC information to all the photos in a shoot. MediaPro used to have a ‘sync annotations’ menu command that did what I’m trying to accomplish. CaptureOne uses ‘annotations’ in a different context, so it’s a bit confusing to me.
There is a portion of the metadata I want to add that doesn’t change from image to image, from shoot to shoot; but some of that metadata is shoot specific. I’d like to be able to easily add those metadata easily.
I’ve created a metadata preset. If I have only one image selected, it will apply those metadata to that image.
If I have more than one image selected, it only adds the metadata to the first selected image.
I tried using the Adjustments Clipboard, but still only adds the metadata to the first selected image.
This happens whether or not I have “Edit all selected variants†selected.
Clearly I’m missing something, and looking for the information I need in the Resources or the Documentation hasn’t turned up any answers.
Can anybody point me in the right direction? I’m guessing it’s something silly I’m overlooking. I hope so, since MediaPro has been EOLed…
Thank you for any help you can provide!
Jim.

I think the secret is in the icon in the toolbar that looks like 3 overlapped rectangles.
(Tool Tip: Edit all selected Variants/Edit only Primary Variant)
If it is not lit, only the primary variant is changed.
If it is lit, all selected images are changed.
I found that you cannot apply a preset if the primary variant already has it (preset name is checked in the Metadata tool). Then select a different primary variant which does not have the preset already - now you can apply the preset.0 -
Eric,
Thank you for your reply! I have a related question: How should the metadata/XMP/IPTC settings be configured for best compatibility with other programs? I recently discovered that all the metadata I had applied to my files wasn't being exported as I expected. Photoshop doesn't see it when I open a file to make changes outside of C1.
This is all the more irritating as I have battled with IPTC/XMP compatibility issues in the distant (1990s) past and thought all players had decided on a common standard.
Thanks again, and I appreciate any advice or guidance you may have.

In your process recipe (or in the export dialog box) there is a tab labelled "Metadata". You can select what metadata is included when a file is exported, for instance what keywords, GPS coordinates, ratings, etc, etc.

Hi Ian,
I already have that selected in my output profiles.
I changed the “Auto-Sync Sidecar XMP†preference to “Full Sync†in the Metadata section of the Image preference panel in Preferences, and left the two ‘prefer x’ checkboxes unchecked. I’ll let you know if that helps…
Thanks,
