Canon Rotation (style copying) issue back again in CO7
So, just as in certain versions of CO6, it seems that CO7 has now picked up on this same issue that plagues anyone shooting a Canon camera overhead. (Or anyone that just wants their applied styles to auto-copy from the previous frame.)
In a regular orientation, for CO to have the image orient itself properly, "Auto-Rotate" on the camera bodies must be turned on. No problem. But when going overhead (top-down) doing so results in inconsistent orientation. It will jump from one way to the other, as the internal gyro is confused when looking at the ground.
In the non-plagued versions of 6, the workaround for this was as follows...
Turn Auto Rotate off in-camera.
Shoot a frame, and orient properly in software.
Then, create a new style w/ this orientation adjustment saved within.
Apply this orientation to said frame.
Then, with "Copy From Last" selected in "Next Capture Adjustments," this applied orientation style would copy over from frame to frame... and in fact, if you were to then change the orientation, this would still continue to apply your new adjustment to the latest frame. Any additional adjustments made to the images will also copy over, as expected.
(Without this applied orientation style, any orientation adjustment made would be dropped upon next frame.)
Now, in CO7, applied styles will no longer copy over. It doesn't matter whether it's only an orientation, or any other sort of adjustment. They are automatically dropped. The only way to have this "orientation style" automatically apply is to use the "Next Capture Setting" adjustment of "Style with Defaults" and choose your style there. Problem is, any additional adjustments made to the image is then automatically dropped, and must either be manually copied over, or a new style created. This becomes a major pain when tweaking your crop, working with overlays, and shooting natural light where constant color temp and exposure adjustments are necessary. Especially when in fast working situations and a client over your shoulder.
It should also be noted that the "Next Capture Adjustment" of "Copy From Clipboard" also no longer functions, or so I've been told from other peers who use this solution as opposed to saving an "Orientation Style."
Something needs to be done about this issue, as I feel it's really more than just a rotation problem. Anyone trying to have a style auto-apply is at a loss here. I remember having a phone conversation with the CO staff back when a version of 6 was released that had this same issue, and being told that the problem did not exist and all should be working fine, but I know countless other peers of mine here in NYC that face the same issues.
Surely, we're not the only ones.
Let's get something done to fix this issue ASAP.
C0 staff, what say you?

Wondering if anyone else is having issues with the copy from last function. I had this same issue described by jconly just the other day. Anyone else having issues with this?
Thanks,
Chris0 -
had the same issue today, but we're good with styles since we are shooting strobes. But I can definitely see where it would be a problem. using version 7.0.2 (latest version). Not sure why the menu option of orientation doesn't work. Of course, it seems lots of things that used to work in v6 are now broken (file naming issues, as in my other post).
Funny thing is that I remember the big controversy back when going from v3.7 to v4 c1pro, and how they made a big deal about rewriting the software so that when they wanted to add functions or fix others, they could just rewrite little sections without breaking others. Seems like that isn't the case though, since once functioning things are now problematic...0 -
We had the same issue today with 7.0.2: styles not copying over with "copy from last" or "copy from primary"; "copy from clipboard" also not working. 0 -
I can lend weight to this being an actual issue, I've reproduced it and I've had clients call me with this issue. I didn't know the proper workaround for 6 but now "jconly"s got me working in 6. 7 still has problems tho.

A tip I recall is: go to the Adjustments Clipboard and check the "Include style layers" box.0 -
I have installed the latest update 7.1.2 and I'm shooting with a Canon 5D mark III. The auto rotation in my camera is turned off. I'm shooting overhead. My captures will still not retain the rotation setting from the previous capture. The only way to retain the orientation that I have found is to set the settings to apply from the clipboard. Then when clicking the settings on the clipboard I have to press Shift when hitting apply. This is the only way I have found to keep the rotation. I shoot mostly with Leaf backs, and I simply have to hit 90 degrees under "Camera> Orientation" and it will apply those setting to the rest of the images. Very frusting not to be able to use this feature with Canon. 0 -
I was shooting all day yesterday using a Mk III and C1 7.1.2 into OS 10.6.8.
The same problem plagued my shoot. The only way I found to make it work was to save a style with just the orientation in it, then in next capture adjustments, select default with style, then after making changes to the last image, copying those adjustments to the clipboard and then hitting apply every time I took a new capture. Frustrating situation.
However, I haven't tried the tip above from Paul, so will try that in future.0 -
Did this get figured out. I am having the same issue. Used to be able to work around this back in 6 but no more. Please help! 0 -
The only solution I have found (with help from C1) is to use the GLOBAL copy tool (double arrow, add it to your top bar) to copy all capture adjustments and the image rotation. Set Next Capture Adjustments to "Copy from Clipboard".
This works for me. The caveat is you have to remember to hit the Copy button each time you want your adjustments to apply forward.0
