Serious Bug with Lion and 6.2.2
Now that Lion is official, I guess I can post a serious bug I have been experiencing. Since upgrading to Lion, I cannot import any of my Nkon or Fuji RAW files into my Capture One Library. I was hoping 6.2.2 has solved the issue, but the issue still remain. Either the program stalls (beach ball) or crashes right away when I try to import.
It doesn't matter if I am trying to import one image or multiple images.
I can do everything else fine, but I hope PhaseOne fixes this soon since I can't work on anything new right now.

Since CO 6 is not actually importing into its library like LR or Aperture, I assume you used the import function to copy images from a memory card to folder on disk. If that is broken you could try to copy images with Finder and open it in the CO Library tool.
Note that CO's Library tool is only browser, not a real library.
I will try the import feature on Lion shortly.0 -
Yes, that's correct. I was using the import function. 0 -
You could not copy that behavior. Import from CF card (Canon 5D mkII CR2 files) in a firewire reader to CO Pro 6.2.2 on OS X Lion went smooth and without any issues. 0 -
I have the same problem. I'm using a Leica M9, MacBook Pro, and new MacBook Air. Each time I want to start a new session (the cf card) already in computer, C1 crashes. I have not updated to the latest version, so still using 6.2.1. As I was running the GM version of Lion I thought I would wait until the official version was released - the same problem exists.
I have resorted to copying the image files (DNG) from the cf card to a folder on the hard drive and then running C1. No problems but a long winded way to go about things. Not ideal.0 -

CO 6.2.2 is a must have. It has specifics tweaks to make it (more) compatible to Lion.0 -
I have tried to repair my disk permission, and a few usual tricks in my new MacBook Pro (2011), but it hasn't helped. At this point, I'm back to using Aperture and LR3 since both programs has shown no ill effects with the new OS (Lion). I hope the issue gets addressed on CO soon since it's not helping with my workflow. 0 -
fails using two different card readers on a mac pro card was an sd card containing x100 images.
Also fails using an integral reader on an iMac
Also fails reading a CF card containing P65+ images on a mac pro using a lexar usb3 reader
Also fails reading a CF card via FW800.
C1 6.2.2
Lion 10.7

It is really hacking me off this!
Whenever I attempt to import images from a memory card, or even from other folders (into a session folder) the whole thing instantly shuts down and crashes!
Anyone from PhaseOne able to help out on this one, can you please look into it and get it fixed. I use CO6 every day in my workflow.
Thanks
Much appreciated0 -
We're looking into it. As Lion isn't even a week old it will likely be awhile before we would recommend the update. There are bound to be some bugs and from this thread it seems the import feature may be one of them. Hang tight and put off upgrading if you could, at least until the dust settles. We'll have a look at this issue and if it is a bug we'll try to adjust for Apples changes as soon as possible. 0 -
Thanks very much Drew!
Really appreciate that0 -
Thank you for your post, Drew.
However, I suggest that in the future, you might want to try a different approach. It is not as if Apple surprised everyone with Lion this week. Everyone knew it was coming, and they released the golden master several weeks ago for the developer to test their software on that version.
I have already communicated with your tech support several weeks ago that there is this issue with Lion, but I was summarily dismissed by your tech support.
For a company that charges $$$ for their program, I would think it would do a better job than this. Even small software shops have been releasing the Lion update since a few weeks ago, and they had been responding positively to user's feedback to make their program work right when the Lion was released this week.
Hope you do not take this as a complaint, but a constructive suggestion as to how to improve your development process in the future.0 -
Some developers have reported that their programs are having problems with the release of Lion that did not show up in the development versions. That suggests that once again, Apple made changes between the final beta and what the customer was offered on July 20. 0 -
That could happen, but not in this case. The official release is identical to the golden master they released several weeks ago. Also, I'm not talking about some obscure bugs or minor bugs that are bound to exist. I do a lot of beta testing, and that is bound to happen with a new OS release.
However, this bug seems rather obvious to me and that disrupts the major workflow at the start of the process.
Anyone who is trying to use the basic work flow with Lion would have discovered the bug immediately. In addition, the tech support knew this bug existed at least for several weeks.
Since I don't want to harp on this issue (hope PhaseOne got the message), this will be my last post on this topic.0 -
From the Tollis Group, who make BRU, the backup program used at NASA:
Hi Folks,
If you are upgrading a Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard system to Lion, you must create a backup of your BRU working environment before performing the Lion upgrade or your existing BRU LE operating parameters and catalogs will be deleted by the OS X update.
We are now able to share with you that the process of upgrading from a 10.6 system to Lion will cause your BRU LE environment to be deleted during the upgrade process. This was not identified earlier as the early BETA versions of Lion provided for developer testing did not delete the BRU working folder from the system when upgrading to 10.7 from 10.6.
Before your perform the upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion, you must create a backup of your working environment. The simplest and most sure way of doing this is to use the 'bru' command from a terminal as follows:
Open a Terminal
Execute the following command -
sudo bru -cvf ~/Desktop/BRU_Work_Files.bru /private/var/lib/bru
Perform the Lion upgrade
Open a Terminal
Execute the following command -
sudo bru -xvf ~/Desktop/BRU_Work_Files.bru
This will properly backup and restore your BRU LE operating environment so that you may continue accessing your current BRU configuration and your catalogs.
If you are not upgrading and are installing Lion fresh, a standard installation of BRU LE will work as it should.0 -
I have trouble understanding how this bug could be more than a slight inconvenience. Probably because I move my files from the card to a folder before importing anyway because I need to tag the GPS co-ordinates. It also lets me put the raw files in another drive for backup so I can erase the card. 0 -
Sorry to ask a dum question, but what is "BRU" ? 0 -
Charles,
I'm just going to respond to your post since you insist on focusing on this issue. The Lion OS went through 5 previews during which Apple did make a number of changes in the beta. That's how it typically works. The post doesn't state when in the beta process Apple made a change that impacted the particular software you are talking about. The golden master they released several weeks ago is typically the final version unless there is a serious bug which prevents Apple from releasing the software to the public. I can tell you that there has been no change from that version to the final verso that was released to the public. The golden master was also released through the Mac App store so that Apple can test the final release process for the public, and given there was no issue, they went ahead and released the software to the public last Wednesday.
I hope this helps clarify your understanding.0 -
In all honesty, I don't think any of us care why its not working, just fix it! I don't want excuses or reasons why its not working, even if they're valid. I just want to be able to do my job! That involves using Capture One.
Thank-you0 -
I give up. I thought I did a smart thing last year buying Capture one Pro and Media Pro. All that time in al versions it is crashing, on snow leopard and now also on lion. I am going to throw away Capture one pr and Media pro. It is a waste of money and time.
I am going to look for something else.0 -
How long has Lion been out? A week or so? What professional puts a week-old operating system on his working computer? Come on! 0 -
I hope folks at PhaseOne!
I installed Lion GM on my test machine first day it came out, and after experiencing no serious bugs for a few weeks, I installed in my working computer when it was officially released.
It's your loss for not taking advantage of Lion.
I'm not going back to SL - I think that says it all.0 -
These are great news NNN634401276401779535 !
but can you tell, even briefly what are the advantages you found when running Lion for the pro photog's workflow?
Like many I installed Lion on my MBP (not my main working machine) but not -yet- on my Mac Pro working machine…0 -
I too put Lion on a MacBookPro but haven't had much time to play with it. I'd love to put it on my Capture One machine and I am very tempted but I also see reports that Adobe software has issues and Microsoft software has issues so I am forcibly restraining myself. 0 -
Like most people here, I'm testing Lion out on my MBP, and I'm also experiencing problems importing files to a new session from my Express Card reader. Every time I click import, the software crashes. I hope this bug gets fixed soon. 0 -
Hello,
I can confirm that Capture One 6.2.2 repeatedly crashes on my MacBookPro and my MacPro with Lion as OS. However, some of my other problems not related to Capture One seem to work and therefore, I will import my images differently not using the import loader from Capture One until a fix is out.

Till now, I have no problem with 6.2.2 on my MBP.
However, I never use (never did before) the import feature.
I always drag and drop files from the CF card to the HD...
However 2, I will still wait some time to install Lion on my working machine…0 -
I know Drew told us not to transfer to Lion for a while yet, but I did it before I saw his message! My problem is that the Process Recipes made available as a download a few months ago have all gone. Has anyone any idea where they might be?

Are your process recipes lost in Finder or in CO6 (or both)? Do you use 6.2.2? Note that the user's Library is hidden by default in Lion, which might cause this.
You might also look into the 'Lion thread' here at viewtopic.php?p=49268#p49268
And about the user's Library folder is Adobe's help in particular helpful: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90947.html0 -
I have the same issue. Cannot import from CF card into a new session. (CR2 files)
I'm not that surprised, not because it's a new OS, but because Phase One always let's us down like this. Adobe always seem to manage. Excuse my bluntness but experience has taught me that Phase One can take months to sort out problems like this. I look forward to being proved wrong.0 -
Everythime there is a Major mac update (10.5,10.6,10.7) as a digital tech I have always waited 2 month or so until
I update my 3 rental computers. By that time progams like Quicken/Anything Microsoft/Toast/Printer profiles and drivers
Monitor calibration software/video card drivers/PCIe cards, etc, have updates. Apple also will have one or two updates by them as well.
I'm always suprised when photographers don't have a backup or clone of thier last stable operating system for thier computers. Hard drives are dirt cheap!
If your Mac didn't have the X.7 installed on it, leave your money making tool alone.
When Apple released it last deleveloper OX.7 they AWAYS change a few things when the Retail version comes out.
I think it's crazy blame software and hardware companies who's products are expencted to run on a new OS release without a few hicups within the first few weeks.
I'm gonna read websites like, www.barefeats.com, xlr8yourmac.com,macperformanceguide.com, this forum and a few other forums.
Have a great day
Brian0
