Variants naming

New/clone variants are different sets of adjustments of a single capture or image file. The name is a property of the file, not the variant. Put differently, a variant does not have a name property. You cannot name or rename a variant individually or separately from the image file name.

You could copy the image file and give it a different name from the original, obviously. You can again have one or more variants of that file copy, all having the same name, i.e. of that file, but different from the original capture's file name.

    Thats a shame.....

I was hoping I could keep the basic file name then add extra info about the variant.

For example Cutlery.IIQ and for the variant Cutlery-MyStyle.IIQ or Cutlety-B&W.IIQ just so at quick glance in the browser I could see what the different variant were of the original capture.

Does no one else think this would be a good option?

... of course this would be a good option.
Or what I would like more (at least): an auto-number extension to the original filename, connected permanently to the variant.
At the moment variants for me seem very useless beacuse the developped files get counting-numbers in the sequence they are developped. Not funny alway to guess in which sequence the files have been developped.

I do. Working on files, creating variants of them and subvariants of variants I would like to add info to the name of the variant. This would be great help for me and it feels so much more natural to me to work this way, than to leave CaptureOne for the file system and create a copy of the raw file there before I can go on in CaptureOne.
To me this is a missing feature, because I naturally just expected that option to exist.

    Kind regards,
    Bernd

I've put in a feature request to Phase support and urge others who think the same about variant names to do similar.
