Copy-pasting layers overwrites old ones, how to work around?

I've just recently converted from LR and Aperture to C1, and I do love it. However, I have a serious issue with local adjustments / layers:
*Copying and Pasting local adjustments overwrites all the old local adjustments of the target photo*
As I understand, this is a feature and not a bug (but I would so much love it fixed, it should not be hard to do).
Anyway, does anyone have a workaround for the limitations this causes? Below, I'm explaining two of the most common use cases where I bump into this problem, perhaps you can share your experience on how do you cope with these:
Use case 1) In almost every portrait, I do both retouching and at least some work on the background and/or tones. The background and tones work is usually something I do via local adjustments. Also, I might create as an end result both a color image and a black and white image. Now, consider that I finally do the retouching on one of the variants: I can not copy the retouching to other variants because it will overwrite the local adjustments I did on those variants! I will have to either re-do all the retouching, or re-do all the background work. (Or, I would have to do all the retouching first before experimenting with any variants, but that's just not realistic, as I might not even know which shots I'm using in the end!)
Use case 2) In a portrait session, I might create local adjustment layers for "white teeth", "sharp and blue eyes", "smooth skin" and so on for the first photo I'm editing. It would be very, very handy to be able to copy-paste these layers from the first photo to another, and only re-do the brushing. But I cannot, because this would overwrite all the other layers in the target photos!
This is just driving me crazy. 😊

Haven't used LR for a while, but with Aperture I just copy the adjusments that I have brushed in, and paste them in the target photo. There, this procedure only overwrites the same brushings made with the same tool, but not all the other ones. (it works differently from C1, there are no layers but instead each adjustment tool can be brushed in, if needed, even several instances of it).0
