Text formatting in description field

When writing image descriptions I use line breaks and empty lines for formatting the text a bit. Unfortunately, this simple kind of formatting is gone when I import the images into other catalogs, the text is then squeezed into one single line. Obviously line breaks and empty line do not survive the export/import within the IPTC fields.

Is there a way to keep the text nevertheless a bit arranged and easy to read?
