It looks like you'll need a PC to setup this storage device:

I wonder if it has an ADMIN function for MAC OS.

I haven't tried that one, but i bought a Raid-5 solution from Infrant, a Ready-NAS. It works as a charm! The best thing i've got for my computer! I have a 4 x 400gb which gives me 1.2 TB of \"safe\" storage ...

    Hi Kris,

Does this \"Infrant\" solution work with mac osx?

If so I'd be very interested in getting one of thses units as I was about to buy a G-raid or a Buffalo Terrastation....

    Thanks

the xnas works perfectly with mac osX..i have had mine for almost a year now, works great, faster then expected and even comes with a media server built in ( for streaming music...) unbeatable for the price....i do have other, faster raids, but the infrant solutions are hard to beat overall for price/performance...

    Hi,

Not to be the negative guy in the room, but you do realize that RAID 5 even with a spare drive ready to rebuild is not a backup. With any kind of RAID system that splits up the information onto multiple drives, normal methods of drive recovery don't work, because you still have to reassemble all the recovered data from all the drives that make up the RAID.

That being said, RAID 5 is a safer way to maintain your hot files (one's that are current and need immedate access) than on single drives.

But you should still look at a RAID 5 as a single drive, and since it's a single copy- you should back it up.

Yes, the chances of two drives failing at the same time are fairly small, but it is not impossible. With RAID 5, if more than one drive goes down, there is not enough parity information on the remaining drives to rebuild both bad drives. And if that happens, you lose all the information from your RAID, which is probably at least 1TB of photos!

    Just my 2¢

So is the NAS NV 2TB the way to go for something like this? It is not yellow and that is a start 😉 Anyway, let me know how they are working out for you and where is a good place online to order them from. Thanks.
