Cannot remove catalog keywords

I have a bunch of keywords that seem to have been imported from jpegs from my last catalog software, which I want to remove.

If I go to the keyword library, right click on the errant tag and press "remove keyword" it then asks if I wish to remove it from all variants, to which I say yes.

The keyword now vanishes from the keyword library.

However, next restart of C1, it is back again. But the keyword does not appear in the filters tab so I can't see where it is getting the keyword from.

This has confused me greatly. I have also tried using exiftool to go through all the jpegs and remove them manually. But the keyword still returns to the library.

Do I just not understand this? Am I confused?

    I have had the same issue, and found only one way to solve it: remove all jpeg and tiff images from the library folders, leaving only the raw files, and then re-import the folders. Then the keywords are cleared. I assume that CO1 v8 wrote the keywords into the jpeg and tiff images somewhere, and v9 cannot remove them even though it seems that it should be able to, as it accepts the command to remove them from all images in the library, but it fails to do so anyhow.

    Thanks for the response.

    Looks like an annoying glitch, then. I will hunt through the jpegs some more to see if there is any other EXIF data which is hiding the tags. But I suspect I will have to remove them as you suggest because the tags just immediately reappear on launching the application, it doesn't feel like it is scanning the jpegs and finding them again or something like that.

    I do suspect some kind of C1-8 -> C1-9 catalog incompatibility like you describe though.

    I will give it a shot next weekend when I have some time and try and clear this up.

    I have a similar issue which I have outstanding with C1 support. Migrated scanned images (JPGs and TIFFs) from my Aperture library. This library contained a whole list of keywords.
    Creating a new keyword library in C1 works but I cannot get rid of some of them. What I do notice that the keyword list under "Filters" is not the same as the list in my keyword library! Are there two ways to filter? Furthermore I try to find if there is any additional info in the metadata area of the files. No luck thus far. Will be monitoring this trail with great interest and if C1 comes back with a solution I will let you know.

    Since this is still an issue for me in the latest beta after 5 months, does anyone have any further clue on this? I would rather not have to remove images and all their changes to try and fix the problem. I did try new catalog and import from the old one, etc.

    It's difficult to track these issues as my support issue was closed as the problem was "already known", but there is no real way to track these to see when the development team believe an issue resolved.

    This was an issue but since V9.1 this has been solved as far as I know. It does work in my version (9.1.2) The only thing is that I have a strange Keyword that is completely blank and I can't remove it. 😕

    The bug hasn't been fixed, as far as I'm concerned. Exactly the same problem as you described, rdghickman.

    The problem, as I see it, it is probably already come to 9.0 when changing from 8.x and but is later visible.

    I don't think Phase One can resolve this problem.
    I have solved the problem for myself. Again search and manually clean the database. There are keywords in places where no likely to be

    I also just tried going through the library folder by folder, finding ones that it thought had keywords in (using the filters tab) but don't actually show any when you click on the keyword, forcibly reloading the metadata for the images (which means they do show when you click on the keyword in filters) and then deleting the keywords. This also does not work.

    Well, that got me a little closer, thank you.

    Removing them by modifying the catalogdb means that when the application starts, the catalog keywords are gone, which is correct. However, if I go to all images, it seems to find them again and repopulate the catalog keywords and the problem comes back. So I'm not quite there. Perhaps I missed something.

    I mean if you has manually removed it from the Database - from which table/ row?

    I removed them from the ZCONTENT_KEYWORDS column in the ZVARIANTMETADATA table.

    Just to clarify, once the program has "seen" the images again, the values come back to this column. So it is either reading it back from the images somehow and repopulating it automatically or something else is going on.

    Maybe do you have the keywords in XMP files and you have fullsync ON for XMP?

    I have never fiddled with these settings and my images load a heck of a lot faster now...

    I think that is problem solved.

    Full sync or load XMP files is infrequent a good option.
