Reassign photo transfer software

I've just purchased a Leica M8 with Capture One and Phase One Media Reader. I also have a Nikon Coolpix and download from them both. But the NIkon, on USB connection, triggers Phase One Media Reader and the M8 (on USB connection) triggers other transfer programmes (which convert DNG files to JPG or TIF) and will not prompt Phase One. How can I reassign so that the Coolpix triggers Nikonview and the M8 triggers Phase One (thus preserving files as DNG)? Thanks

    I'm not truly sure how you can accomplish this, but I'll offer some info that hopefully will help.

    It is the DCIM folder on a card that triggers the .exe for the Phase One Media Reader

    When CF card is inserted into Card Reader and 'see' the DCIM, it launches.
    If you use a Card Reader, do you get the same behaviour?
    If your Nikon program is already open and you connect camera, does the Media Reader still launch?

    In general, using a card reader rather than downloading from camera is faster and saves camera battery.

    Many thanks for your prompt and helpful comments. I was able to transfer DNG files taken with the Leica M8 by putting its card into the Nikon Coolpix. Switching on the Nikon triggered the Phase One software to transfer. I today bought a card reader and all cards (whether taken with Leica or Nikon) now trigger Phase One (A partial improvement since at least now my DNG files do not get converted to JPG automatically). Unfortunately, the ‘Nikon transfer’ tool (a menu option within ‘Nikon View’) will not now work (it says there are no cards in the camera or card reader) so I now have to transfer using Microsoft file browser (acceptable but slow and it remainsa puzzle why Nikon View won’t work). Following your tip that it was the DCIM card that triggers the .exe for the Phase One Media Reader, I formatted the card (to delete the Leica folder) and took shots with the Nikon. Nikon Transfer still does not work however and indeed tells me there are no images on the card (when in fact Microsoft file browser finds photos are there).
    A later version Phase One Media Reader could usefully give the user some control over settings.
