Bug? in healing tool
After cropping a picture (cropping outside enabled) the cropped picture will have some gray parts, this works as designed, the former outside region is now part of the picture.
But I could not copy parts of the picture into this gray areas using the healing/repair tool.
EDIT: Sorry, I posted it in the wrong forum, I use Win 7, but maybe this bug(?) is not related to the OS ...

Not a bug, just a limitation.
The grey area really doesn't exist, it's just empty data that cannot be analysed or "created" with the heal tool until it is "created" upon processing the image to a Linear file.0 -
Thx for the fast response.
Does it mean I still have to use PS or other tools to fill that space?0 -

By "healing tool" do you mean the spot/dust feature or is this something new? If so, where do I find it? 0 -

Thanks Drew! I'll explore this feature and thanks also for the link to the help videos. 0 -
Windows 8/64 bit.
The minus key (between the zero key and the +/= keys, right?) is supposed to remove a spot/dust selection that you don't like. Correct?
If so, it doesn't work for me.
I can use the back arrow (top left hand corner of the screen), but that's only useful if I do so immediately, it seems - not if I want to remove a selection after I've made various other edits.
Also, since I can't see and therefore edit/move the healing selection that C1 has made, I can't seem to edit dust that straddles say an edge such as a door frame. In ACR/LR, you would simply move the selection circle to part of the edge to maintain a perfect straight line. What's the solution in C1?
I'm trying to move over to C1 because I'd love access to Levels and Layers, and the interface is beautiful.
Thanks.

Dinarius,
Are you talking about 2 different features here or thinking of them as one?
Dust/Spot functionality works on the Background level and specifically operate on the places they are assigned to using different algorithms to deal with spot (as in skin blemishes) and dust (as in sensor dust spots).
If we want to control other things, such as where to clone from, we need to use a layer, add a mask and then specify where the replacement data should come from. This applied to the Clone and Healing features.
It's easy, I find, at this stage to mix up the two approaches when concentrating on fixing problems.
I think you may need Clone or Heal layer(s) to give you the control you are looking for. From your original description I am not sure whether that was what you have used - I got the impression it was not.
Let's make sure we are talking about the same things at the same time and take things from there.

Correct.
If you want to fill in the gap left by cropping outside the original image, process/export the final image as a tiff, then open that image in C1 v8 to clone in the missing bit...0 -

Hi Grant,
Thanks for the reply.
Firstly, apologies for the delay in replying. I thought I would get email notification of replies. I haven't been.
I misunderstood what was meant by "minus key" in the online tutorials. I literally took it to mean the minus key on a keyboard, not the minus key symbol in the Spot tool dialog. 😜
The spot/dust removal options are working perfectly for me now.
However, I do think that the Clone/Healing features are a little longwinded and overwrought. Click and drag in Lightroom is far, far quicker and simpler. But, you can't have everything, I suppose.
The pluses far outweigh the minuses.
