What's the word on IPTC?
Has anyone seen or heard any official notification of IPTC being managed or at least passed though? We've returned to 3.7.9 as this was the straw that broke the camels back. The small loss in quality was well worth the reduced stress!

So you hoped others would do it for you? At least you are honest about it. 😊0 -
So many in this forum seem to ignore the concept of following topics... IPTC is often just thrown in halfway down a discussion about something entirely unrelated. Not impossible to find what you want, but tiresome especially after hours of wresting with C14pro, and just want to get home from work.
I know the staff are very busy trying to get the basic functions of file processing workflows working again, but maybe someone should do some moderating.
Don't look at me though!0 -
IPTC is definitely something that should be implemented but it is again just one of those things that is prioritized among other features.
I am sure it is not an easy job being the product manager and have to make a hard choices that will please some and upset others.
Meanwhile Capture One 4.7 works great parsing IPTC data which has been entered in Microsoft Expression Media2
Of course it is better to work in just one software however I just want to supply a workaround for now.0 -
Add captions with expression media 2 worked fine with 4.6.3 but not with 4.7.... 0 -
4.7 is passing through IPTC info that I have embedded with Photo Mechanic 4.6 in my RAW files...So I'm happy now...It has been a beef of mine for a long time! 0 -
is it passing through location details? and the creators contact details? mine doesn't seem to... 0 -

Is it passing it through to TIF files? I use PhotoMechanic to put IPTC data into RAW and 4.7 (win) transfers it fine into jpg but is not consistent about putting it into TIF in a way that software other than PS can see. PM does not see it until I have resaved it with PS.

It needs a resave with PS indeed for PhotoMechanic to see the metadata.0 -

I have sent a support e-mail with a sample file to Camera Bits to see if there is a preference setting that will allow Photo Mechanic to see the metadata.0 -
I can't believe that the eip thing is prioritised above a standardized metadata implementation. You guys are cutting your own noses off to spite your faces. Still we will continue with 3.7.9. All your hard work is going unheard whilst you faff around with your competitor chasing fancies when once you were cutting edge. Where on earth do you get your feedback from, not these forums that you youselves set up to to save you some work replying to emails. I'm aghast!
My workflow has become so complex since you introduced 4.5. I tether the 1ds mk3 to 4.whatever because you didn't do the right thing in 3.7.9, cry out loud in front of clients when it freezes whilst tethered or stuffs up mounting of FireWire card readers, then make a session over the top of the original one with 3.7.9, then sort metadata in photomechanic then ingest the lot into our dam software then process in 3.7.9 then rework in photoshop... Jeeeesus Christ! Someone please fetch me some film from the fridge, it's right there next to the Valium!0 -
Hi,
Lets get some definitions straight first. The current IPTC standard is IPTC Core which introduced XMP six years ago. This allowed new fields such as Creator contact info including postal address, email, website, etc. The older IPTC legacy specs do not support this and unfortunately those specs are what the camera manufacturers still use in their proprietary Raw file formats. So I understand software companies like Phase One and Microsoft only supporting those specs the camera manufacturers do.
Adobe DNG (and in theory Nikon's latest NEF) support XMP and IPTC Core. Apps like Photo Mechanic and Adobe Bridge use Adobe XMP sidecar files to support XMP in Raw files that do not support it "natively". What Phase One could do immediately to help photographers is extend their DNG support to honour and embed IPTC Core in the file.
OT - Capture One 4.7 reads Star Ratings but doesn't parse them on in conversion.

Canon's raw files seem happy to carry iptc core fields without the need for sidecar files. I don't understand why only extending dng support would be sufficient. 0 -
Hi,
Yes, but there is a risk especially with Canon Raws.
If you're using Photo Mechanic to enter IPTC it uses a best guess where to write and store it. Some apps don't like that. If you use the Canon software to enter it, say on download then you would assume they know where to write it!
So far only Adobe have documented where to write IPTC including XMP with their DNG format. Some manufacturers like Nikon and Kodak offer vendors a 'software development kit' that helps third party apps write metadata.
Microsoft have thrown it back onto the camera manufacturers by requesting they build Windows Imaging Components that are considered to be codecs.

Back to Square 1.
Apart from keywords little IPTC data is picked up and passed through from Photo Mechanic (4.6.1) through C1 Pro version 5 to TIF or JPG files. And even Photoshop resave now does not seem to work either!
Oh well as I have not been able to activate it despite licence management telling me I have 3 "free" upgrades left. If I have to pay I will almost certainly switch - to what I am not sure yet. I have not looked at the options since the Spring.
Oops - should have been in Windows!0
