How to change View Only permission
I have a catalogue on external hard drive and move it between office (Mac) and home (Win).
Recently I have problems wit some of my picture folders where the files get status View Only permission.
That's only with Windows.
How could I change the permition?

My suggestion is not to look for ways of changing the permissions but look for the conditions that cause those proper View Only permissions to be set on those files in the first place. My inclination is to assess which environment may not be allowing for portable drives or is otherwise not suitably configured. Things like write-cache and 'you can disconnect your external drive now' type of settings.

I have a problem with permissions when running C1 under Windows: if I export a JPG or TIFF that has been considerably reduced (19% or less), then Capture One will automatically consider it read-only.
Perhaps this can explain some of the behaviour that you observe.0 -
I can't find the reason causing this problem. This is only with C1 files.
I can open the same RAW files with ACR or Lightroom.
If I copy the files to the computer HDD in new folder the problem disappear.
Also it's only when I connect the portable HDD to Windows computer. When I connect it to Mac there is no problem ☹️0 -
I understand the catalog folder AND the images are on the external drive.
Q1. Are the images stored inside the catalog folder (fully managed) or in folder outside the catalog (referenced)
Q2. What is the format of the disk? Do you use any particular tool for reading the external disk?0 -
If the catalogue is using referenced files my guess would be that the reference to the file in the index does not match the current location.
For example does the external drive have the the same drive letter and folder structure when opened using windows as it does using the Mac?
I am assuming that the catalog is not locked in some way.
I would think if it more likely something to do with the catalogue status rather than the referenced files.

A1. Images are stored inside the catalog and they are on the external drive
A2. The format of the disk is ExFAT. I don't use any particular tool for reading0 -

The letter is the same. The problem is not for all folders in the catalog but only few of them.0 -
How you formated your external hard drive to FAT 32 or something different? 0 -

I don't remember. ☹️0 -
You can check using Mac OS disk Utility 0 -
Using Windows Explorer find the disk in the listed drives, right click on the disk icon and have a look at the Properties. The window displayed should tell you which format the disk is using - assuming Windows recognises the disk at all. 0 -

The ExFAT format could be the culprit. IIRC I have seen earlier issues with that in CO8. You'd better check with support.0 -
Ex Fat sometimes causes problem of read only permission for software. I do not know why it is happening but I've get similar issue with lightroom storing catalog on ExFat. 0
