problem with Offline files
Dear Gentleman, Thanks in advance for your consideration.
I moved a capture one catalog from my mac/pictures folder to an external hard drive, and also renamed-the catalog.
When i move the newly named catalog back onto my iMac desktopfor use in capture one the files are all "offline" and i'm unable to export any of them into TIFF's.
I tried to use "locate files" which doesn't help, and also it doesn't let me drag the file back into the "catalog"
Are these files lost forever? Thanks

Where are your originals located? 0 -
Please forgive my inexperience, here is what i did-
1. shot images on phase one p65+ digital back using CF memory card.
2. imported originals from CF memory card to capture one catalog on iMac desktop
3. drag capture one catalog to external hard drive and rename catalog while on external drive
4. delete catalog from iMac desktop and delete CF memory card
5. drag renamed capture one catalog from external hard drive back to iMac desktop and open with capture one, but OFFLINE status an unable to LOCATE path back or export any files
sorry for the confusion, it seems like the photos are not accessible at this point0 -
When CO8 gives the 'Offline' sign, the images are stored outside the catalog (folder). This is also called 'referenced'. You can move the catalog around, the original images will stay put. When you look into the Library tool > Folders section, you can see the disk and folder structure where they reside.
If you need a tutorial on basic catalog organization, maybe this will help:

Thanks paul for your help i greatly appreciate it. Upon reading the articles, I realized I imported the images from a memory card and chose to store images "inside catalog". Even after I "locate files" the offline message remains. My only conclusion is that I did something wrong and the originals are gone would you agree with this assessment? Thanks again 0 -
Since managed images (that is stored inside the catalog) never can become into a offline state, something has seriously gone wrong if this happens anyway.
If you go to the Library > Folder > Catalog object, does it have a number behind it? If so, and when you select that object, are any thumbnails and previews displayed? And if so, do they have the offline state?
Is (are) there any disk object below the Catalog object in the same Folder section?
(just double-checking)0 -
yes i see thumbnails, image count, and OFFLINE messages but it gives error when i try to export them....
and doesn't let me drag them up to the catalog....

Hi,
Thanks for the images in the post, it helps.
As you can see, there are no images in the Library>Folders>Catalog object. This means there are no managed images.
I see a disk object (Macintosh HD) and an object "street.4.21.14" that contains the images. The weird thing is that this object has a catalog symbol. I have never seen this before. I expect to see a folder icon.
Last resort: right-click on the 'street...' icon and select Locate. Next, browse to the location where the original images reside.
For me it is clear I have no clue what has happened and how you can resolve this. Apart from this nasty situation I suggest you make yourself more familiar with basic aspects of a catalog, as I discussed in my blogs. I believe that lack of the basics is what have caused this in the first place.
I hope this helps you and that you do not feel offended, as that is not my intention.0 -
you were a huge help, than you again i really appreciate it ! 😄 0
