Are you using OpenCL for processing? Are you on 10.9, and if so, have you installed the 10.9.2 update?

I have 10.9.2 and am using openCL.

I was using openCL since November without issues until recently. I am not sure what changed that effected it. I will try to export some images without it and see how that goes.

I am seeing the same issue. Just changed very recently. Most likely something in the 10.9.2 update that has effected it?

I'm also on the same configuration, maxed out latest model MacBook Pro. Seeing the same thing where everything else becomes uselessly sluggish while processing whereas before I could always multitask easily while C1 was doing it's thing.

I run iStat Menus and have noticed a difference in the way processing is happening... it used to be that C1 would hit all the CPU cores nearly 100% and seemed to be getting some use from the GPU processor as well. Now, when processing, the CPU's are barely being utilized at all and it's just maxing out the GPU. Seems weird that this would make the whole computer so sluggish.

Yep, same here. Also noticed the changed core load in istat menus.
No problems during tethered shooting w/ Canon 1dx. Only processing makes MultiTasking nearly impossible.
Problem occurred right after 10.9.2 update. Everything fine before.

So, what seems to have happened, from what I can tell, is that pre-10.9.2, the GeForce GT 750M wasn't yet fulling being utilized by some OpenCL apps yet. Whatever Apple did in the new update, it's now working for those, but seems to really clog up the system when doing so. I'm not sure if this is typical behavior for a machine when it's putting everything on the GPU? Perhaps someone else here has some more insight into that. I've actually noticed that it's had the same change & effect when I export video in Premiere Pro, since the update.

Simple solution is to just turn OpenCL off in C1. It goes back to working as previously. I've noticed that using the quad core CPU on this specific machine is the same or even a little faster at processing photos than using the GPU anyway, so it's not really a huge deal.

I have turned off Open CL for the time being, and have noticed the system fans kick in a lot more since the switch. I hope that an update happens soon to solve this problem. Pre 10.9.2 things were great.
