I'm still having big problems with CO
My system is Vista 64-bit.
When I reinstall CO and open it, I see the NEF files from a sselected folder. The problem is that the sliders all disappear when I either activate or say I'll use the trial version. With either choice I get a dialogue box that says I need to restart CO. Until I click ok for either choice, I have sliders. Once CO closes and reopens, the sliders are not there.
I thought that my problem was a conflict with Adobe Photoshop. I have not only uninstalled CS3 Design Suite, but I have run a special program to remove all remains of CS3.
So now it appears that my problem is with the activation or trial choices.
Please help!!

As a further test, I copied a handful of NEF files from this desktop computer to my notebook which is the other activation of CO. That computer is running 4.8.1. I opened CO and selected the handful. All the sliders were there and worked.

Hi Vaugh, sounds nasty. However I do not completely understand the activation status of CO4 on your desktop computer. Is it activated or not? Do you get a License (Welcome to Capture One!) run mode dialog when you start CO4? If yes, what do you select? 0 -
Hi Paul,
As you can guess, I have two activations, one on the portable and one for the desktop. I have been activating and deactivating the desktop one trying to figure out what's happening.
When I install to the desktop (and I have tried different versions), I get the welcome message and the choices of trial or activate. I have tried both choices. Once I make the choice and click ok, CO restarts. Once the program restarts (with either choice) the sliders are gone.0 -
Paul,
Any help yet?

Just a thought, as I've never had this happen....so I have no idea what you mean when you say the sliders are gone....BUT
both Nvidia and ATI have had major and frequent upgrades to their drivers over the past year.....these are separate and apart from drivers you will have delivered eventually from Windows update...
Question: have you upgraded your videocard drivers? and if not...give that a try. Even with a brand new card...the shipping drivers are frequently outdated.
Video cards have a profound effect on the operation of programs under Windows...0 -
First off, the sliders don't show at all in the boxes like Exposure, Contrast...
I like your idea, but I am quite sure that I have the latest drivers 'cause when I installed Vista a couple of weeks ago, I made sure that I had the latest ATI driver for the card.
Everything was fine until I tried to install Photoshop CS3. Even with Adobe support, Pshop would hang up. So Adobe gave me the link to a program that unistalled even the hidden files and everything associated with Pshop. Somehow that botched installation did something to affect CO. Now I'm desparately trying to get CO to work as it did before the Pshop fiasco.
Since CO was working, I doubt that the driver is the issue.
Any other suggestions are very welcome. I'm a professional photographer and I need CO to work.

I'm in a terrible situation and I don't sense that Phase One is going to help at all.
I can't run my business without a RAW converter.
So today I have begrudgingly started exploring Adobe choices. I hate LR, but I don't seem to have many quality choices as a pro.
I'm still hoping that Phase One support will help because I have used and like a lot CO. But if genuine, timely support isn't part of the software, then I'm using the wrong product.

Sorry, you should know this is a user-to-user forum...not PhaseOne support. If that's what you're seeking....you need to open a support case with PhaseOne
The only way I can get the sliders to disappear is to click the menu arrow on the left of the particulat tool.
Otherwise, the sliders are greyed out and inactive UNLESS a file is selected...so they haven't disappeared, but they will be inactive and faint grey if there's not a supported file selected.
My suggestion of a video driver is a fairly common solution for graphics problens, again...I too am a professional photographer, I'd grab a couple of screenshots and a file or two you are trying to open and open a support case....in the one or two occassions I've needed support, that has been both effective and easy. Good luck.....0 -
When I translate your disappearing sliders with disappearing tools, then you might want to reset your workspace (Window menu, Workspace, Default). 0 -
BTW, I did open a case with Phase One. 0 -

..and I hope you sent some files/screenshots to help them diagnose your problems.
I would also note that Adobe is NOT going to help you with CS3 issues, and if uninstalling that indeed removed some shared files....shouldn't Adobe be responsible for tech support? This is not to bash Adobe, just a fact of life. You either pay for support or not...your choice.
PhaseOne support is likely several time zones away, and free, but to take the best advantage, we all might consider what is needed for that to succeed. It's helpful to mention what you have tried....and facts such as current video drivers installed can save you and them time.
You might have a unique problem as a result of running a CS3 uninstall program that....as far as I cen recall was needed to remove the beta trial of CS3....I did that when CS3 was introduced, and that was under XP, well before Vista was introduced. While that uninstall might work under Vista to remove CS# issues...who knows what common files were removed?
Hopefully you have also read the PhaseOne FAQs about installing under Vista 64...if not give that a try also...good luck.0 -
Vaughn,
Have you considered building up your Vista machine from scratch? 🙄
Might be time to consider that option.0
