Support for Fuji S3/S5 ?

From a standard view point of RGB data from a CCD/CMOS sensor the data this camera provides is a 6mp sensor. I am aware that there is some extra mini sensor data which supposedly will give more dynamic range, but it is still a 6mp sensor with more dynamic range if used, and not a 12mp like Fuji says.

What we have previously said was compare the Fuji HyperTool to the files you get out of Capture One and make up your mind what you like the best.
If it is file size it comes down to, set scaling to 200%
What most Fuji owners has come back with was that they like Capture One better.

I think this is the fairest comment I can give.

My post was about dynamic range, maybe I did express myself wrong, I apologize for that. But when I compare the dynamic range that I can develop with Lightroom, s7raw, Lightzone and dcraw (!), those programs are way ahead, when comparing to C1. The R pixels in the RAF files are underexposed by 3.7EV and they contribute to the dynamic range. C1 doesn't process them at all. Using Fuji HyperUtility is not the best way to compare (unfortunately), because it allows only -1EV underexposure.

For testing - try to develop a s5 file (at 400% DR) with -4EV with C1 and Lightroom and compare the results. It shows what is hidden in the highlights. Here the file :

In lightroom you can get this:

in lightzone, you can get this easily. Impossible with C1:

Try to extract only the R pixels (second image in the raw file) with dcraw (with option -s 1). This is what is missing in C1 and prevents me (and I'm sure other users as well) from buying and using C1 PRO.

When it comes to the resolution - you can get more from this sensor than 6mpix. Dpreview.com says about almost 8mpix resolution (comparing to Canon EOS 30D) here :
    http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/fujifil ... page27.asp
but this is not my point. My point was about dynamic range. I can't process highlights in C1. Fuji has chosen a different way to process raw, than the other camera producers. Not to underexposure and dragging details from the shadows, but from the highlights.

So, is Phase One implying here that the "R" (highlight) pixel isn't used????

That's a huge negative then. Like the original poster I am able to pull a large amount of recovery out of other products including Fuji's own. Unfortunately I don't see nearly as much from C1, but I had still assumed C1 as using the "R" pixel.

Is it not??? If not then it's really essentially converting the S5/S3 into a glorified S2 (albeit with a slightly different color behavior).

I swear in a previous post a long time ago Phase One indicated they used the second pixel, but if that's not the case, this is a serious flaw. Can Phase One clarify this?

Incidentally it would be nice if "compressed RAF" or S5/S3 DNGs were supported. Without that support the files have to be kept huge.

    Thanks.
