Processing Primary Variants

Something changed - I was in the habit of selecting the images that I wanted to process or copy styles etc to by using apple + A, then if I hit the process button anything selected would process as expected. Now I can have twenty or so images selected to process in the main window / browser and only one image will process.
Only way round this so far that I've found is to shift click the process button in the tool bar to process all selected.....
If I need to reset or apply styles, I'm currently going through one by one.
Clearly I have changed a setting - just cant see where ?

Help appreciated.....

  Edit menu, Edit All Selected Variants
  
  or Sh+Cmd+E
  
  or triple rectangle symbol on toolbar
