Media Pro - damaged catalog issue
I am a longtime user of Media Pro, going back to iView Media, then Expression Media, and now Media Pro. I recently had major computer system issues which required erasing my main start up drive; fortunately I have good back ups of all data and apps, etc. Apple Mac Pro, OSX, v10.6.8
When I attempted to open my Media Pro catalog I got an error message to open it "Read Only" because it was in use. It was not open when the system crashed. I finally got the catalog to open, during which time it ran a lengthy repair process. I had to Reset Paths for all the thumbnails with the original Media. But, that repaired catalog does not have my Ratings nor Custom Annotations nor saved Catalog Sets. This is a huge problem because I use these tools to keep track of which images are with which of my three stock photo agents. When I now attempt to open the original catalog (before the system crash), after getting the same "Read Only" message, Media Pro stalls and I eventually have to Force Quit it.
I tried opening the original Media Pro catalog in iView, but that did not work.
I sure as heck hope someone can help me, as this catalog represents years of work. The catalog is 1.17 GB in size, and has about 48,000 photo files in it. Thank you, Mark Weidman

Ugh - sounds like a bad problem. I had one like this once, but I eventually was able to open a backup on my external hard drive. One thing I did was not to try to open up my backup directly. I made a copy of it with the Windiows OS and played with the copies.
Anyway, simply a wild A$$ guess - open a new empty catalog and try to import from one of the pre-crash catalogs.0 -

I realy hope you have a recent back-up?

I had a very large catalog file that was obviously corrupted (it wouldn't open after numerous attempts). It contained 96,000 images and was around 1GB in size. I found a solution in opening MediaPro without a catalog, and importing the old corrupted catalog into MediaPro (File/Import Items/From Catalog File...) This created an identical catalog to the corrupt one, with all paths intact. I then just saved this as a new catalog, and carried on working. I hope this helps someone. STU 0
