Capture One's Use of Inactive memory
I am very disappointed. An issue which has not allowed me to actively use Capture One for my work has been the systems hold on Inactive Memory when loading a folder that has a large number of images. For example, a folder of Yosemite image contains 2,031 images shot on a couple different occasions from a Phase One back. When opening this folder, even with Active GL turned off, Capture One consumed all of the memory on my Mac; 48 gig before it was even finished loading the folder. This is what Version 6 did which I reported and complained about and I was advised that as a work around, put a small selection of images in a folder that I would work on. With the Ownership of Media Pro, I figured that Phase One would figure out how to join the two products to allow Capture One to create a database and not grab so much memory. This is not the case.
The other part of this problem is that after one closes Capture One it does not clear the memory. One either has to reboot the computer or use an app (Clean Memory) to reclaim the memory Capture One has grabbed. This is unacceptable. Capture One is a great product, but this issue need to be addressed.
After closing Capture One and cleaning memory, I am back to 44.96 of Free Memory. Opening Lightroom and opening the folder of Yosemite images (images were already build for their database) consumed virtually no Inactive or Active Memory putting me at 44.28. This is a shame. If Capture One used the memory better, I would use it more, but I don't and will not until this issue is corrected.

But ... what is really the problem that C1 uses all of your memory. It's free, right?
But, in any case i would suggest not to put all of your images in one folder, keep it to a handy 200 / 300 images. This is not really restricted to C1, i know a lot of other converters/libraries that get inexplicable behaviour once you get above that. Especially if you have high MP images.0 -
I completely agree, I have been working fine with LR and 6 GB of RAM, no issue at all.
tried C1 7, and the computer crashed once and again. Bought 16GB ram, now having 20GB and also having problems, every time have to open terminal to purge the inactive memory.....0 -
Have you tried setting OpenCL to never? 0 -
yes, I have, same result
