Noise Reduction as a Local Adjustment

Local Adjustments in CO7 are available to a limited set of tools. Noise reduction is not part of that tool set.

A workaround could be to make different versions (variants) in Capture One, with corresponding settings, process each and open them stacked in Photoshop, each in a layer. Next, apply layer masks to select the areas of each layer you wish to use.

You can make a feature request official in a support case for proper logging.

    Paul,

That's a good idea! On the other hand, given how it works now, it is probably easier to use the Photoshop noise reduction with a mask.

I've also posted a feature suggestion to P1 directly.

I'm finding C1 V7 rather good at eliminating noise from my Canon RAW files in even the most challenging situations. This is epecially so with newer bodies even at the consumer end of the range.

However for some of the more stubborn files - typically with some noise in the darker mid tomes rather then the very dark end of things - detailed inspection can throw up some areas that would not work well viewed large.

I experimented with the Moiré tool since the effects I have expereinced tend to be colour related and in areas where detail is not a main requirement. The important thing is that is can be applied as a local adjustment. It usually works quite well for me. You could combine it with some negative clarity too to see if that helps.

I also sometimes use an older application that has local adjustments for everything and a beyond that colour, luminosity, blend mode and so on within each adjustment tool. Very powerful. On the other hand, being older software and for a few other reasons, it does not have all the inbuilt fine tuning that C1 offers up front. It has some of it and produces great results but not all of it - so more work is required to get to a base level. It compared well with C1 V6 in many ways but it would be more challenging to get even close to V7 IMO.

The thing about having so much functionality in tools in an editor is that you ar likely to end up using them. No problem at all if you have the time per image available. Not so good for bulk processing where you just know that a little additional playing per image can produce some special results ... and time just seems to disappear.

Some thoughts, for what they are worth.

I find noise removal as a local adjustment usefull too. But i get good results in tests by reducing noise local in flat area when i decrease clarity much. this reduce the noise in a very nice way with no artefacts
