jpeg and tiff pictures look dull in C1, here Version 9 Mac

I have the same problem. It's there for a long time now, and I test it in every new (sub-)version.

The profile CO uses for the imported tiff / jpeg could be part of the problem. It is 'tiff neutral' or 'jpeg neutral'. Importing AdobeRGB and sRGB gives different color results.

'Round trip' is a one way ticket for me, the tiff only a reminder for what I am doing outside.

Filed a sopport case some time ago, waiting for a fix. Please file a support case, too, to give it more priority.

I love the results I get on raw images, but this is one of the two big issues I'd really need to see solved.

    I've just tried this:

Exported a Sony A6000 RAW file (ARW) as a TIFF with ICC profile set to sRGB IEC61966-2.1, I then re-imported this file.
The image did look dull and generally lacked any 'punch'.
what I found when I checked under the Colour Tab > Base characteristics was that the ICC profile here was set to TIFF Neutral, I changed this to sRGB Color Space Profile which made the image much look better.

I'm new to C1 so may be missing something here, but I would have thought/expected that when I re-imported the TIFF it would have honoured the profile assigned to it (sRGB IEC61966-2.1) and not just set it to TIFF Neutral.

    BTW, I'm using C1 9.0.3, El Capitan.

I am using CO for a long time, but now I may be missing something here.

There is neither a sRGB profile nor a AdobeRGB profile in my CO that I can assign to the tiff / jpeg image in my session.
I have tried copying the profiles between OS X system folders, downloading reference profiles, and importing from images in CO. It seems I need these profiles with class 'input', and none of them is (they are 'output' or 'display').
How did you get the sRGB profile into CO's drop-down list? And do you have a AdobeRGB profile (my favourite TIFF profile) there, too?

I found it in Colour Tab > Base Characteristics > ICC Profile > Other >

    john-new,

In 'Base Characteristics' - 'ICC Profile' - 'Other' I only have
    - 'Camera RGB Profile'
    - 'VideoPAL'
    - 'VideoHD'
    - 'VideoNTSC'

That's all. No AdobeRGB, no sRGB. 'Camera RGB' seems to be from the built-in webcam. Having both profiles in here would be a workable solution for me, at least for the time until PO fixes it.

    Thanks and regards,
    Hans

I've copied AdobeRGB and sRGB profiles into new files and changed their header tag from 'display' to 'input'. This made then visible and selectable in the base characteristics. When applied, bright colors in jpeg and tiff are different, highly saturated, and again wrong. There is a shift in brightness, too.

    Still no workable solution found.

Thank you all for trying to help and your own thoughts about it.

Just a hint: C1 displays pictures proofed with profiles from the recipes! So whatever you choose as your recipe for output is your proof profile for the monitor. Which is a great feature, still can be turned off. But playing around there did not really improve what I saw on my monitor with tiffs and jpgs.

I filed a support case. They seem to be aware of the problem and say that it is something they intend to solve in a future release.

Maybe I am crazy (looking too long with too much hope onto my monitors) but updating to 9.0.3 made the results better. Still not quite the same as rendering in Photo Mechanic, which I trust much more in rendering jpgs and tiffs.

On my laptop with sRGB gammut I see almost no difference between C1 and Photo Mechanic. So it seems to be that the larger the gammut of the screen the more this problem becomes obvious.
