    There do seem to be issues on some systems with the generation of previews. You could try setting the Hardware Acceleration setting in the General preferences to Auto or Never (try both) and see if one helps. Another workaround might be to just import only a small number of images into a catalog for now so you can at least get going. I expect there will be service release that helps with this issue. You have a support case open which is great as it will hep the CO engineers narrow down the problem.
