purchase vs. subscription
it is a fallacy to think you had a choice between purchase and subscription
c1 is the best raw converter I know. but c1 is not a replacement for photoshop even after this update and adobe products are also better at the keyword management. so many "improvements" of c1 are only waste balast. Unfortunately c1 v8.3.4 under el capitain doesn´t work without errors (as under yosemite), so you are practically forced to update, if the own workflow is affected of the defects. so it's finally like a subscription regardless of whether you bought a previous version (because you know, that you don´t need "improvements") or actually subscribed to.
and that you get 3 licenses with this update is just eyewash. you have to pay €99 for the update to v9 instead of €69 for v8, whether or not you need the 3rd license.

and phaseone has announced that v8 is fully compatible, so think it is up to phase one to fix the bugs.
i dont want to upgraded to C19 a iam still using the C18 under El-Capitan, " its Slow but no crash"
a very strange things happens after i download the demo (C19) on my computer its slowing down 😭
iam working with Session and C1 9 have a new Session Library not shared with C1 8 because of Version rebackup and i dont pusch the nice button "upgrad" in C1 9:P
i can't teal way its happens , but i recommend to make a really Clean and new installation for C18, and erase the Demo Version C190 -

I have both C1-8 and the trial version of C1-9 installed on my Mac and I am not seeing any slowdown in functionality. I am seeing some issues with OpenCL and a bit of an issue with memory leaks, both in version 9, but no system slowdown.
I have taken care of the OpenCL issues in 9 by turning OpenCL off for both Display and Processing.
I have taken care of the memory leak issue in 9 by exiting and restarting C1-9 after importing my raw images. That typically changes my displayed (Memory Clean) free memory from 1.5GB to about 8GB. I can then process without any issues.
I expect PhaseOne to address these issues and may not upgrade until they do, but other than these issues everything is working properly for both versions 8 and 9. And, in fact, I have found the ability to create Color Mask layers very appealing.0
