CF cards are not designed to be the most stable way of storing images. Personally, I'd be happy that they don't stay there as the HD is where they should wind up anyway.

ya, well is there any way? its always good to have them on the CF and the hard drive as a backup. That way I can send the CF to my lab. I am mainly using C1 as a method of previewing the images for clients.

I do not let my CF cards out of my site. As a pro, they are too valuable to me, and no way I'm going to stick them into some kiosk that has been used by lord knows who else. Burn the files to a CD.

    Hello
If your shooting tethered it wont put a file on your cf card at all, on a 1ds mk 2 you can shoot to 2 cards at the same time for back up.

if shooting tethered just copy your capture folder to an external drive for back up.

    thopunk,

No, this is a feature of the Canon software only.

    Hi,

You cannot use C1 alone to tether + save to CF card simultaneously.

You can use the EOS Capture program to do this with/without C1:

Set up a session in C1, close C1

In EOS capture, go to File menu, save settings, choose to save also to CF card... Choose to save images to your Capture folder for the session you just setup in C1

If you set up EOS capture to perform the tether BEFORE opening C1, C1 will still look for tether, give an error, and tether if/when you close EOS capture.

This works as though you are importing from cards: you view the folder, and do what you want to w/the images, but you cannot control the camera from C1. Eos Capture runs the tether in the background. C1 updates the folder/previews only when you refresh the window by switching to another app and back to c1.

If using Canon or Nikon WIFi transmitters, you also have the option of saving to card while also sending files over wireless tether...

I too wish C1Pro enabled save to CF card at the same time (the free Canon software does)...

That was the old "work around" method before Phase One official supported tethering was available across the board, but it uses precious RAM running an extra application. Not an ideal situation when it is important to get images to pop up quickly.

certainly not ideal, but it does allow you to keep data in two places at once, which is ESSENTIAL for data security. If you've only got CF cards and the drive built into a laptop...

It's a toss up whether it's any better than simply read from card without erase/reformat.

depends on the job & on available computer resources

If you have your session set up on a drive that is configured to mirror to another drive, that would definately be a more robust method of instant back-up.

When I shoot to CF cards in the field, I use PhotoMechanic to ingest my cards, and it will automatically send files to two destinations simultaneously. I set one to the Capture Folder of the Session, and another to a RAW Folder on another HD.
