Somewhere in the release information I read that V7 is not backwards compatible. This is not a surprise. Backwards compatibilty is usually rare and very limited if at all possible no matter what the application sets out to do.

Microsoft offer some options for creating files to old standards in their Office products for corporate compatibility - but usually that means throwing away the benefits and features of later versions.

A lot of applications of all types have, in recent times, been rewritten from the ground up as new core development and operational software has been pushed into place by the operating system developers to make use of advances in hardware. This has (usually) resulted in a better overall experience for the end users but not without some concerns on their part and a lot of development effort from the developers. Some have not completed the task and so disappeared.

I know of a few case where early adopters among the developers were surprised by undocumented changes to the tools they were working. Changes that were not at all obvious but were disruptive in some situations for some or their clients. Hopefully we are well past most of that these days but who knows what might be lurking in the depths of the development tools?

A little caution about the source of any problems that appear might be wise. For windows it is usually good policy to ensure all drivers and underlying software (.NET and things for example) are up to date. However I heard of at least one problame that was caused by BEING up todate and the officiall fix (from Microsoft) was to step back a version or two as a temporary measure. Hence my suggestion for caution should problems appear.

No, as Grant said, adjustments in CO7 are not to be seen in CO6.
