Moire Tool: Problems making partial mask

I am trying to use the Moire Tool with a partial mask and can not get the color picker to select the color I am clicking. The image is a simple portrait on a white background, and when I select the colored shirt with moire, the selection shows up as diagonal lines across the image. It should just picking the purple shirt I am clicking, but it seems there is a bug or something.

Is anyone else experiencing a problem with making partial masks?

I have gone through the Quick Guide and it does not help much.

  I'm having the same problems on multiple G5's but it works great on my G4 Laptop.
