Automask

Hi, my problem is, that I can not get C1 7.1.6 to use the auto mask feature. I use files from an IQ 180, named IIQ files. When I draw along a hard edge with lots of contrast , the brush acts as there is nothing. I am working with Mac OS X 10.7.5.
