import NEF + xmp?

When importing NEF files, should I import the xmp too?
I want the thumbnails to reflect any changes in the
appearance of a NEF file that has been modified by
me in post production.

  If the XMP data is in a standard form and contains metadata, it would be worth importing.
  However, Capture One can only read the RAW file and cannot import any adjustments you made to the RAW in another software.
