Deleting images incredibly slow.

Maybe you delete an image while CO5 is still creating proxies on first opening. This may delay operations. Best to wait till CO5 is done with opening all images and creating proxies.

Are your raw files located on the same physical drive as your Trash folder? Since 5.x moves the file to the trash folder, it's quicker for the operating system since it doesn't actually move the file (more of a file allocation function) than to make a copy on a separate drive.

Since my files are stored on a second drive, I've changed 5's settings to store the Trash folder on the second drive also. CO, while allowing this, also warns against it. I live with daily crashes of the program, but so far no data losses (knock on wood). I've learned to not empty the trash folder while using v5, especially not while processing.

I have the same problem when deleting pictures. In my "under-rated" PC (dual core 2.8GHz P4 and SATA-2 7200 rpm HDD), deleting a picture takes 1-3 seconds to complete. If I move to next picture immediately, I will get a few of error dialog boxes, saying the file is in use or file no longer exist. I really have my hands off the keyboard after pressing the <Del> button.

It seems that CO5 was creating proxy for those pictures that were moved to Trash because in the Trash folder, I can always find the full subfolder structures as normal folder. Isn't it superfluous?

CO5 moves the previews and settings in case you need to restore them, especially after an accidental deletion.

In addition to that explanation: CO5 (and earlier) clean up adjustment file and preview file along with the image file you delete. Nice and tidy, not cluttering your disk with files you don't need anymore.

Saving the previews and settings are OK. But I think the delay was caused by CO trying to generate a proxy/preview cache for the picture in Trash. Having error dialog boxes complaining file is in use or file no longer exist isn't a good user experience, is it?

Try to switch folder during deleting, process will speed up dramatically.
