    Hetty,

Capture One for Sony is .... for Sony.

As part of the special relationship Sony users can us "Express for Sony" for free and "Pro for Sony" for a low upgrade cost than full Pro.

The downside is that "for Sony" only supports Sony files.

To use RAW files from your Nikon you would need the upgrade to full Pro.

Sorry, I can't comment on your file size question. I'm not a Mac user.

Grant is correct. If you have a Nikon you need Capture One 8 Pro. The Sony version only works properly with Sony cameras. Either buy CO8 Pro or a Sony 😊

Different catalog (library) size might be caused by using a different preview image size in Aperture vs. Capture One. You can find those in Preferences > Image > Cache > Preview Image Size.

That would be called preview then in Aperture. That must be it.
But there are a lot of 'thumbs' in my Capture One library now. Can I simply remove those? I don't see any use for them now. There were lots of 'faces' as well, which I have already deleted. I had after some time disabled the face option in Aperture. Even plants were labelled as faces. These were imported as well.
BTW, I've got the full version now. It allows editing RAW images made with my older Nikon cameras, the Lumix FZ72 and hopefully some others.

I do suggest you to do a clean import from aperture, as you done this process on non PRO version.
But before https://captureintegration.com/transiti ... e-one-pro/ check this article, and do some preperation work in Aperture.

I have been in a conversation with CP1 support for over 1 1/2 weeks now about this exact issue. All of these 'extra' files appear to have come from the iCloud+Photo Stream library included in the Aperture.aplibrary. It is possible that recovered files and files still in Aperture Trash are included. My imported Aperture library of 2224 referenced files ended up in my Capture 1 Pro Catalog with 8163 images! I have not received an adequate response from support yet.
    Update:
Support has acknowledged this issue with their Aperture Library import protocol. They suggested exporting my Aperture Projects as a new Aperture Library, and then import into a new Catalog. Easily accomplished. I selected all projects, exported as new library; and then imported into CP1Pro. All files are referenced and took less than 10 minutes.
Now I can concentrate on learning the software.

I had to do 3 bad imports from Aperture before I got one that I was happy living with. I chose to make all of the images Referenced in Aperture before import.

I am treating the new C1 Catalog as an archive simply so I can access the old images through the same software as the new catalog.

If you have a managed library in Aperture you may well find the move to C1 works better if completed in "handy bite-size chunks". Create new smaller Aperture libraries from selected Albums and transfer these to like-named User Collection folders in Capture One.
