XMP Behaviour
I watched a Phase One webinar where they explained that data stored in xmp sidecars would be read during import to allow ratings, colour tags and key words to be copied into the catalog. They explained that you had to set a preference in CO v7 first, "Auto Sync Sidecar XMP" has to be set to "Load".
I have tested this with some raw files with XMP sidecars generated from Lightroom 5. I didn't have to set "Auto Sync Sidecar XMP" to "Load", it still imported the key words and ratings. However it fails to import the color tags.
Setting "Auto Sync Sidecar XMP" to the different options makes no difference.
Full Sync - I think this option may actually be to allow CO to keep the sidecars in sync with its own metadata.
Load - Should be just for loading data once during import.
None - Should ignore xml during import ? (but doesn't)
OSX 10.8.4 CO 7.1.3

Morning,
as the title says, it’s a Sync setting. If you change metadata of previously imported images in another application, these changes will be synced to Capture One – either one-way (load) or two-way (full; now metadata changes made in Capture One will be written to XMP).
If you import images, metadata will always be read by Capture One. The Sync setting covers what happens should metadata change later.
Color tags are not standardised between different applications; Bridge won’t recognise Capture One tags, Aperture won’t recognise ACR or Capture One tags, and so on.
Hope this helps,

Thanks, that is what I thought. The video was confusing as they went to the setting before importing, implying that it had to be set to work during the import. 0
