Extremely Disappointed Long Time Pro
I have never written in to a forum before, but felt obligated to comment on my extreme disappointment and frustration with C14. Although major improvements in color, exposure, sharpening are welcome and appreciated, the workflow has gone backwards and I'm seriously considering selling my Phase system over this. I've used Phase backs exclusively since the H10 with incredible results and an absolute pleasure working with Capture 3.
I waited patiently along with thousands of others I'm sure for this new breakthrough Pro version, and can't believe what I'm seeing and experiencing. I'm holding back every curse I can imagine over this.
Tagging... forget about it, useless...
Styles... no drop down menu, awful
Sessions... no way to quickly move between sessions, set up a session and have a simple intuitive way to find and handle processed images, trash and captures... unbelievable.
Shift Key for everything!!!
Awful hard to see and read interface... just looks like a ripoff of Aperture or Lightroom.
I can go on and on with all the shortcomings and useless "features" that real pros would never use and find absolutely ridiculous.
It's too bad that in this day and age a great hardware product has been held hostage to awful software. That's why I went with Phase over Imacon in the first place SUPERIOR SOFTWARE AND WORKFLOW. Unfortunately, those days are over... wow, I'm still in shock!

Couldn't agree more with what you say about the software. When I look at CO Pro v3.7.9, its UI, ergonomics and workflow as well as several of its features, it seems vastly superior to 4.5 Pro (if that is what I've got on my computer). I used CO 4.1 so I don't believe that 4.5 Pro is entirely novel to me. I guess I had hoped that many of the features of earlier Pro iterations would be retained, or at least that there would be a choice to retain them 'makable' by the user. So, yes, there is considerable disappointment. 0 -
it is.. different...
But I feel committed to at least answer a few things so you get some clarifications so you do not feel frustrated out of misunderstanding..
Tagging/rating we have implemented the 5 start system, which has more or less become a industry standard, This you will see in most programs today. Also since in CO 3 customer liked to have more options so we added colour tagging as well as a secondary level.
Styles is its own pallet, which you can add to any tab, so you can have the styles drop down available on any tab of the program, any where you like!!!! Also it updates the main view as you scroll so you do not have to apply it to see how it affects the image.
Sessions is even smarter then before since you are not restricted to one, you can have multiple sessions open at any given time.
Many of the major short coming in CO3 has been address such as before you could not compare images in different folder, let alone different session. This can be done by using albums.
In a studio situation for a digital tech it was impossible to check focus while a photographer was shooting, this is possible through the grab frame feature.
Just want to mention a few things.. then I have not tuched image quality and correction tools....0 -
Since I received no reply elsewhere, what constitutes a valid session name. I mention this because I receive a warning when I try to create a session (I leave aside the microscopic font sizes) that I'm using an invalid session name, although these are the types of names that I've been using since session were first instituted in CO Pro.
Also, how do I now enter a point in the Curves dialogue box?
Finally, it was previously possible to adjust settings in Pro 3.7.9 from the keyboard using the up and down arrow keys to adjust, for instance, exposure values in small increments. And it was possible to use the Tab key to get to the relevant parameter. We were told on this Forum that this would again be the case. I've not suceeded in being able to do this in 4.50 -
1. Could you provide sample?
2. Click and hold down button on eyedropped in tool bar and choose pick curve point.
3. It is missing I agree but have you tried using scroll wheel on the mouse instead.. I find this a very good way to work.0 -
Please give us back arrow keys for the adjustments, please. Increments with the mousewheel are to big and take much too long if you have to adjust lots of pictures. But thanks that I can finally move through all the fields with the rtab key and start at top again, that used to be a pita in 3.7...

Tagging with a numerical value is far superior to stars..... especially when it comes to editing. And tagging with colors is useless. Just because other softwares use stars doesn't mean that is the most functional way to do it. 0 -
Waldy,
I am in partial agreement. I have used 4.1 after 3.7 and came to appreciate a reasonably good workflow. I actually like it now. But.......... 4.5 and 4.5.1 are completely useless to me as they are totally unstable after a few seconds.
I was looking to upgrade from mamiya and P20 to P45+ but the software just does not work.
I have now looked seriously at the HD3 11 39 as an alternative - great camera but very poor Phocus software which is light years behind even 3.7.
With 4.5 and Phocus being released within a few days of each other - rushed maybe - for me they are both exceptionally poor.

I have to disagree here..
I really like the new 4.5 except for a few things but they have more new good options that make up for that.
I was PO'ed yesterday b/c the program Corrupted 2 whole folders of images and I had to reshoot..
But I got over it and used the program all day today with P30..
I have to say I like it better than 3.7
Miss the focus window a lot.. But hey maybe they will bring it back.
I also like the dark background compared to the older program... the images look better I think against dark.
Does anybody know by any chance, How you use the color of the last Favorite folder or session with the next folder you make with out setting it again?
I choose Primary when chosen, But what do I select to have the next look or favorite to have the same Profile or calibrated file I did on the prior "look".
😁 Thanks for any heads on that.
