Import CO6 6.x session to CO7 / Express
Hey,
I just installed CO7 on the same Win7 PC I used to develop my raws.
Now I would like to import all my already existing settings from v6 into CO7. Of course I would like to import all existing adjustments to my pictures.
This is shown in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=siwYSF18 ... 9&index=31.
However, it does not work on my PC.
I did the following steps.
1. Create a Project
2. Create a group to import the pictures
3. Select File -> Import Session... Now I should point to .co50 or .cosession. Where is this usually stored? I can not find it. There is only on cocatalogedb, which is from CO7.
Where can I look up the location?
Some info that might help: I have no more access to CO6 after I bought CO7. The license was removed from my account once I bought CO7. My CO5 license is valid, but I can't activate it.
I always used the file browser in CO6 to access my pictures, all adjustments were stored in a subfolder "settings50" as .cos File
Please help 😊
Also, If there is a written manual somewhere in the internet how to import session into a catalogue, please let me know.
Cheers!
Markus

Hi,
A few remarks:
When you import a session in a catalog, you do not have to create a project or group as user collection in CO7. These will be created during session import as the video shows.
Because you have probably worked with the Express version of CO6, there is only one session. This session can be found in the Pictures\Capture One Library folder. Here you will find the Capture One.col50 to select.
Since you browsed the CO6 library for your folders to open, they are not part of the session, as strange it may sound, unless you made each folder a session favorite. As a result the import session feature may not be that interesting for you after all.
If that is the case you'd better use the regular import feature of CO7 and browse your image folder one by one or select their parent folder and select the subfolder checkbox in the import dialog. Note to also check the box for importing existing adjustments in the same import dialog.0 -
Hi Paul,
thanks for your answer. Finally it works. I am still wondering why the adjustments or at least the ratings are not shown in the preview windos, since it looks as if they should be shown.
Is there a way to create for each folder I import pictures from an album an name it with the foldername they are taken from? This would be a really handy way to import a huge number of projects without creating albums manually.
At this point I have to import all Pics into CO7, because of the database structure of CO7 I have to decide if I maintain all file operations within CO7 or with Win7. A mixture doesn't make sense to me. So I would like to import all pics in the catalogue.
I can add folders one by one in the Folders-section, but I can't say "add folder including subfolders" an during the import all pics are added to one huge cataloge, so there is no order. Which means again, creating folder after folder and drag and drop of all pics into the correct folder.... for hundereds of folders.....
Cheers,

Have you checked "Include existing adjustments" in the Import Images dialog before starting the import?[quote="MarkusH" wrote:

No, I am afraid not. Would be nice indeed. A tip when creating albums manually: create them before importing and import you disk folder directly into the album. You can find this setting in the Import Images dialog: Import To section > Collection > Selected Album (you have to select the desired album before opening import).[quote="MarkusH" wrote:

You refer to "Inside Catalog/Current Location" setting. Note that the Inside Catalog option, although default, will grow your catalog quite large. The Current Location setting allows you to use, preview and adjust images even without the source location (could be external disk) not be available. You end up with a much smaller size catalog.[quote="MarkusH" wrote:

The Folders section is for Capture One to populate (except for specific purposes). You do not add folders here to import.
It works the other way round: when you import > Inside Catalog; all your images can be found in the Folders > Catalog symbol. When you import > Current Location; CO7 will link the folders you have imported in Folders > Disk > disk folder.
Note that in the Folders section you have the ability to move images from disk folder to catalog folder and vice versa. Only in such circumstances it makes sense to add folders manually (to move internal images into that folder)0 -

Yes, it was checked. After "ok" all existing adjustments are applied. But not in the preview. No stars shown in the preview-window, even the pics are rated 3-star. Nothing to bother, just strange to me.[quote="MarkusH" wrote:

Thanks for the tip, but I would call it "workaround" because of a missing function. I would expect a third option: create a new album and the option to give a name at this time. Working in a folder without an album would be even nicer. LR5 offers this in a very confi way.[quote="MarkusH" wrote:

No, I probably didn't make it clear. With import all pictures I didn't mean to populate the database with the pictures. I have to populate the database with all references (path and filenames) of all my existing pictures to be able to move pics from one folder to another. If not all files on the HDD are known in CO7 there is one big isse: I have to move pics that were imported in CO7 within CO7, because otherwise the reference to the file will be lost. All pics, that were not imported yet, have to be moved with the Operating System.[quote="MarkusH" wrote:

Yes, I got that. BUT: I have my pics already on the harddrive and now I need CO7 to know the filestructure on the HDD. Because in the next step I can move pics between folders with CO7. And also can Import the pics into an Album if I want to develop them.
I installed Lightroom 5.2 yesterday for comarison. It took me 30 seconds to find the folders section, click on a "+" and within seconds all folders and pictures were within LR. I am even able to adjust the pictures there, without creating an album. I am wondering why CO7 is not able to provide the same handy function.
I love the CO6 workflow and I am used to it. Because of that an the new image processor I bought CO7. But without file-operation and import function I asked about and I found in LR, I am going to change to LR.0
