Question re addressing files in their current location...
If I simply want C1 to access files in their current location on my HD - and leave them there with edits intact - do I have to go the Sessions or Catalog route?
Or is there a third way that avoids these?
Thanks.

Session or Catalog, either will work.
A session saves adjustments next to the RAW and you can just click on the parent folder of the RAW files to load the images.
A catalog saves the adjustments in the catalog itself and you must import the files to associate their location with Capture One.0 -
Drew: is there any way to create the adjustment folder also for catalog? I really like the catalog functions (projects and groups for example) but I'd prefer to have the adjustments next to raw files. Is there any way to do this? 0 -

There is not. This is the main benefit, to many, for a Catalog. The Settings are neatly saved within the Catalog.
However, once the files are in the Catalog and edited you can make a copy of the files along with the adjustments outside of the Catalog using the "Export Original" option of the right click menu.0
