OS X 10.11 El Capitan
With the release of El Capitan tomorrow, I was wondering if Phase has offered any official word on whether or not Capture One will be fully supported off the bat? Obviously, I won't be upgrading to El Capitan for at least a couple weeks after release or maybe even a .1 version to root out any other compatibility issues, but I skipped Yosemite and am still running Mavericks on all of my machines so I'd like to get El Capitan sooner rather than later. I didn't ever install Yosemite because I wasn't a huge fan of the new UI and I was concerned about the "iOSification" of OS X, but I'm pretty excited about some of the new features in El Capitan so I'm willing to overlook those concerns and get with the times!

Yes it does...
Btw, I'm not complaining just sharing my experience with the upgrade to El Capitan. My photo management is not of professional nature so it really is not an issue for me - as HansB said, I'm curious and there are a lot of other benefits to upgrading the OS than just CO1...
That said - I do have the time to wait for official support from Phase1!0 -
I've had some odd behavior running C1 8.3.3 and OS X 10.11.1 Beta 15B38b.
Namely, switching in and out of the "Camera" tab hangs the program for 5-10 seconds, IF and ONLY IF the Capture Pilot tab exists. If I remove the Capture Pilot tab, I can switch in and out of the Camera tab just fine. Also, I can start Capture Pilot, then remove the tab for Capture Pilot, and things run as normal. It just seems the existence of the Capture Pilot tab slows things down drastically.
I've done a permissions repair and also reinstall of C1, with no success.0 -
The funny thing will be that Apple will release an update to El Capitan, like a .1 update, right when C1 is updated. All of us will get this updated El Capitan ... and C1 will crash because it wanted the .0 release. ๐
I never remember something like this happening with my dark room. It seemed to work no matter what. ๐0 -

It is actually quite the contrary. C1 IS waiting for .1 update to make sure that the code is not being changed again. Once out and if all is cool they will release the el captain-comaptible version. GUYS!!! it has been like this for a while, last year was the same with Yosemite. You guys have short memory terms. No one NEEDS this update to survive or pay bills. LR and PS are also broken so relax....
And if you are still on & and bitching...well there is just no excuse. 7 was a buggy release 8 is another level of software and if you do not want to upgrade, especially now with the super sale... then you really should not post here

Oh, that seems a little harsh.
Those not updating have every right to post here as do those who do update. It is common software practice for companies that have to have functioning software to be up and running to avoid upgrading until the new product is stable or even until the following version is available. That is, many companies that rely on the software for business may not upgrade from version x to x+1 until x+2 is released. Some users feel the same way.
I am on C1 8 and El Capitan and I (obviously) have OpenCL turned off so I can work, but I think that those people who did not upgrade have every right to post here and to complain.0 -

No you really do not have any right. C1 version 7 was a few years ago. Phase one has spent considerable time and money to make a stable version 8 that is now in its .3.3 revision. C1 ver.7 was buggy, never really worked well. C1 8 works well, it is faster and much improved in many ways. Why would you not upgrade? there is no reason not to. Its like if you had a cathotube tv and you bitch because you can not see 4k programming....0 -

I am not going to get into a shouting match with you even though you appear to be aiming that comment at me. I am a bystander who believes that there is no reason for people on forums to be nasty or argumentative just because someone disagrees with them. I have upgraded to version 8, but it seems perfectly reasonable to me that others do not wish to do so. As I have said, in all of my years working as a software engineer I have known lots of companies and individuals who only upgraded every other release and they all had valid reasons. Even if I did not consider those reasons to be valid, even if they caused me extra work, I never assumed that it was not their right to do so and to complain if that is what they chose to do.
If you wish to be angry and nasty to them (or to me) that is your business, but I will not participate.0 -
I too work as a a software engineer in a very large well regarded company.
Our customers are not individual consumers but large corporations (and small ones).
Smart customers do NOT take the first release of any new OS version for any income producing installation.
The fifth dot release is about where the smart ones jump in.
OSX 10.11.0 - I wouldn't install that on anything but a "sandbox" machine.
Somewhere around 10.11.3, after its been around for a few weeks and I've checked user comments, will be when I upgrade.0 -
Hi all,
Capture One 8 is crashing on my MBP retina since I installed El Capitan.
I upgraded the NVIDIA firmware as suggested. I also deleted ICOCL.bin to let it recompile.
Is there any other thing I can do? Please help. I really need this to work.

Turn off OpenCL until the next updates become available? (Assuming you might be running one of the affected NVidia cards.)
Undo the El Capitan update?
But of course there may be something completely unrelated to these suggestions causing the problem and you have not indicated where in C1 the problem appears. At start up? When editing images? A particular edit activity? Tethering?
If the OpenCL turn off doesn;t solve the problem I think people will need more details in order to be able to make any useful suggestions.

It's simple: go back to 10.10 and process away happily and successfully until there is a full C1 El Cap update.

Open the Terminal.app (from /Applications/Utilities) and enter the following commands:
defaults write com.phaseone.captureone8 UseOpenCL 0
defaults write com.phaseone.captureone8 UseOpenCLForProcessing 0
This will solve crash problem on OS 10.11, many other apps including Photoshop are also suffering from same kind of crashes becasuse of OpenCL0 -
So why is everyone in a twist about El Capitan? Can someone remind me?I don't have it and I'm still able to eat, sleep, and breathe. Is there some feature in there that will revolutionize my life and I just don't know it? Will it automatically add a full of dynamic range to my photos? I used a dark room for a couple of years and I never had to have this El Capitan. Images came out fine. The process never really changed. Enlarger, chemicals, tongs, clothes pins ...
So what will change in my life with El Capitan?

6BQ5 Just because it new software and for mac it is typical to update as soon as new update is avilible, I saw that happening even in production labs, moreover unfortunately users even not wait for confirmation from software vendors like PO for update.

I updated to El Capitan because i like the excitement of seeing what apps that crashes when i open them, then i have a lots of fun writing in forums about it ๐ฟ
Capture One runs...i had OpenGl set to "never" when i updated...but now i have written in this thread anyways ๐0 -
For those that didn't wait:
Apple today released OS X 10.11.1, which is the first update to the new El Capitan operating system that was launched to the public on September 30.0 -
Capture One crashed as soon as it was opened after I installed OS X 10.11 El Capitan earlier today. I disabled Open CL with the toggle provided by Phase One, which removed the problem (but of course meant that I did not have Open CL!). I have just downloaded the update to OS X 10.11.1, then re-enabled Open CL, and Capture One seems to be working. So it looks as though Apple have solved the problem with the new update. I will try again in the morning and report back if the problem has recurred. 0 -
I just tested that too, on my late 2012 Mac Mini i7 and CO starts up fine with Open Cl set to "auto" !
But i think it is because Capture One disregards my fine HD4000 integrated graphics... ๐0 -
I just tried re-enabling OpenCL after the OS update and it crashed as before.

same on mbp with GT 750M - update do not resolve crash issue 0 -
As my previous reply indicated, after I had downloaded the OS X 10.11.1 update last night C1 8 worked with Open CL on Auto. But this morning it crashed again and works only when I force Open CL off with the toggle. So it looks as though the update has not fixed the problem. 0 -
Hi all, Phase One support just shared an AppleScript with me that forces OpenCL off under El Cap and it works, Capture one runs but without the OpenCL support.

Hi,
As far as the release goes all I can say is VERY soon.
However we have found the main issue with El Cap is OpenCL which causes it to crash.
So for the moment we have written an applescript that you can apply to make it run.
You can download it here: http://support.phaseone.com/KBFiles//17 ... S10.11.zip
I hope this helps and thanks for your patience.
Kind regards

FWIW, It works fine for me with a late 2013 mac pro AMD D300 using 10.11.1. 0 -
OS X 10.11.1 update doesn't work for me either. Worked until I used OpenCL the first time and then back to crash city. Can't wait for the Capture One update. Too many work arounds for me right now. 0 -

According to the iMac "Core i5" 2.7 27-Inch (Mid-2011) specs, your iMac has an AMD Radeon HD 6770M graphics card.
The OpenCL problem only occurs with nVidia graphics card.
I downloaded the trial on my end 2012 iMac 27" with the nVidia GeForce GTX 680MX graphics card and El Capitan 10.11.1 and I have the OpenCL crashes. I'm waiting for 8.3.4 before I take the decision to buy Capture One. Hoping for the best!0 -
I'm getting a new iMac delivered Monday, and I'm 99% sure El Cap is loaded in.
So I will take any additional hints as I have a pile of work to get thru when the new computer arrives.0 -
If you are a Nikon user I suggest that moving to El Capitan on OSX is a potential disaster as tethering is also broken as the Nikon SDK needs updating and so does any software that uses the Nikon SDK!! 0 -

Please note that CO is no longer using the Nikon SDK, and thus is not affected by this.0
