Remember that High Sierra is not yet supported by Capture One.

I switched from AFP to SMB. Same speed, less issues.

Apple has dropped the support for AFP since Sierra. The preferred connection method is SMB for Sierra and High Sierra. This has been discussed many times on Mac forums. So, it is also my recommendation for you to switch to SMB.

I use SMB plus COP 10.2 on a High Sierra machine without any issue, at least the ones you describe.

Did you try if 10.2.1 fixes your issue?
