deleting images

New to C1 from Aperture. Loving it! My previous flow was import to catalog. create album or project. reject/delete images i do not want and rate the others. when i delete in a project or album they only delete from that album or project and not the catalog.
Looking for a flow to send images to trash. Do i need to rate with in catalog and then send to album/project?
