Can not initiate healing layer

Can not initiate healing layer. Whenever I try to change the character of the layer from adjustment to healing or cloning an error message pops up: A new rendering engine is required.

    You need to go under the "Base Characteristics" Panel and click "Upgrade to 8" or whatever it's labeled. You've opened images that have been previously edited in v7 and it retains that old engine until you say so. Then all the new functions will work fine.
