Canon 5D Mark1 Tethering Problems with 4.8.1 and 5.1.2
Hello, I am trying to test out the capture one software using my Canon 5d Mk I. I have tried using a friends v. 4.8.1 as well as the trial of 5.1.2.
I have updated the camera's firmware to the most recent version.
The PROBLEM is that Capture One recognizes the camera (it shows it as an option in the dropdown menu in the Camera section of the program), however, it will not work. When I go to select the 'EOS Canon 5D', I get the error message 'could not open camera.'
Any ideas would be great, Id really like to get this amazing software working.

Possibly the camera port setting?

I think the problem is that my camera will only be recognized by the computer when its on the "Print/PTP" setting and not the "PC Connect" setting. Do you know how I can make it comunicate on the "PC Connect setting?"
Thank you.0 -
Have you installed the WIA driver for the camera? That is a mandatory step for communicating in "PC Connect" setting. At one point in time Canon dropped the need to connect through a driver, but IIRC that was after the initial EOS 5D model.
Note that for the WIA driver you are stuck to Windows XP. Canon does not provide support for Windows Vista and 7 for these legacy (Canon terminology, not mine) models.0 -
I have not installed that driver.. and I'm running Windows 7 64 bit, does that mean there's no way for me to shoot tethered with my 5D? That would be a heart-breaker.. 0 -

Sorry for your heart. Both Win7 and the 64-bit version are excluding you from the tethering game with your 5D, unless you install a 32-bit Win XP virtual machine on your Win7 machine. If you have a Prof, Enterprise or Ultimate edition you are entitled to install it for free (download MS web site).0 -
Alright, Thank you for all your help. 0
