10.2.1 Lots of slow downs
I've downloaded 10.2.1 because I have MacOS 10.13.1
After installing it's slow! It works okay for the most part, but as I'm cropping/rotating it will stop with a spinning wheel for about 30 seconds every other pictures or so. I had it process the previous ahead like I did under 10.2 but it sure is slow now. Is there anything I can do?
BTW I was running 10.2 just fine under High Sierra.
** I just tried it again and it has to do with every time I try to rotate there is a 30 second stop in the program. Also, even though it is set to create 1440 resolution previews, it's not actually using the previews. They are all very low res.

10.13.1 is a beta from Apple, and seems to include more changes that was the case from 10.12 to 10.13.
CO is currently only working with 10.13.0.0 -

10.13.1 is not a beta it was release 4 days ago. maybe phaseone should stop developing for osx at all because evil apple makes only trouble 😉0 -
As always, don't update production-environments to latest and greatest MacOS days after its release, beta or non-beta. There is a high likelihood for malfunction, not only with Capture One. 0 -

Really? What part of beta do you not understand?0 -
According to MacRumors, macos 10.13.1 was released as a working version on October 31. It may not work with Capture Pro but it is no longer a beta. It appears a security vulnerability and adds emojis but doesn't appear to make major changes to the OS.
Apple has released an initial beta version of 10.13.20 -

Capture One 10.2.1 was released after Apple officially released 10.13.1.
I therefore find your reaction quite bewildering.0 -

Yes, but only 2 days after. I don't suppose anyone could have tested it thoroughly and made any necessary tweaks to it in the single intervening day!

I totally agree on that and don't blame PhaseOne for not having had the time to test it on all hardware configurations with 10.13.1 - you'd never get anything out. Not even knowing that Apple released 10.13.1, that's what I find bewildering. I think Christian must have misread something.0 -
So if I’m understanding Christian correctly, Capture One Pro works for MacOS High Sierra, but not the current version of High Sierra which is 10.13.1? 0 -

I will rephrase, at the time of internal procedures being finished, 10.13.1 was still in beta. We are now running tests on 10.13.2 beta and looking into the bugs being reported on 10.13.1.
And just to reiterate, we cannot recommend running Capture One on 10.13.1 or higher at this point in time.0 -
Christian,
I understand you point but the situation for your customers is unfortunately not that great. I have been waiting for PhaseOne to release a version compatible with High Sierra which finally appeared (and had no warning regarding 10.13.1). Running the OSX upgrade brings me straight to 10.13.1 and then....?
Best

Problem is the classic time to market issue:
- launch now, with what you have and make most people happy.
or
- wait, get it even better, but people not waiting for specific non 10.13.1 related issues, will have to wait even longer compared to option 1.
We chose to get it out there, with 10.13.0 support, and with critical fixes to the Windows version of CO, where adjustments were not saved due to a change introduced with Windows Fall Creators Update.0 -

Maybe it's time for billions of users around the world to make sure that Apple and Microsoft fully understand that their take on "agile" software development is looking more and more like an abuse of their respective dominant market positions.0 -

Perhaps a simple warning would've been sufficient. How difficult would have been to communicate that this release works only with this software. I understand secrecy and all that nice stuff but here we are talking about simple and necessary communications. This version of C1 works with this version of OS. Simple ! Like I said ... your lack of customer support equals your ability to write a great program. Just be careful that some one does'nt write an equally great program and has a more friendly report with its customer base0 -
Given the short time lines between the two releases, getting warnings out could be a challenge. It's a bit harsh to blame Phase One.
I also agree with SFA's comment about Apple/Microsoft changing their O/S and leaving developers in the lurch - I have one key Word plugin that still isn't working after 2 years due to O/S changes that broke the entire model underlying the way the plugin integrates into Word. And, of course, Apple blames Microsoft which blames Apple and so on.
Finally, for anyone who has not yet upgraded to High Sierra, the only version currently available through the Apple Ap Store is 10.13.1. So, if I want to upgrade to High Sierra, I have no option but to go with 10.13.1. Given that 10.13.1 includes a significant security patch, I doubt that Apple would provide a way to downgrade to the previous version.0 -

It must be quite frustrating having to dedicate so much time and resources to changes in OS behavior instead of new features and other improvements...0 -

Upgrading can be frustrating and it has always been this way since the beginning of computers. We just have to weigh which will be the most beneficial to me--getting the benefits of the latest and greatest, or waiting if and when the problems are solved.
Back to the original question and that is, is there anything I can do to stop the 30 second lag that was included with this version (10.2.1) with rotating the picture while using the crop tool? Or, is there something that i should to report the problem so it can be handled?0 -
We are looking into it, however, we have a hard time reproducing the slowdown in-house .
Please write to our Support Team if You have this issue. That might help us develop a pattern, so we can be able to reproduce.
Remember to include details such model number, if power was connected, log files etc.0 -
I thought I was hard to please! 0 -

Hey Bryce,
I've exactly the same issue as you but with a little more narrow down on where the problem could be.
- My issues started with C1 v10 and has persisted with every release since. Never had any issues with C1v9.
- Only appears to be a problem on my top spec 13" MacBook Pro Late 2016 TB (Have a 2012 iMac and everything runs fine there)
- Only happens with Nikon D5 NEF files (I have two bodies and exactly the same slow down on each body. Also have a D850 and NO slow downs at all with that one even on 46mp files)
- Updating Mac OS or C1 version hasn't resolved it
- Running OpenCL ON or OFF doesn't help
The support team have been great but unable to replicate the issue on their systems. Have send lots of logs and files over. The next step is to do a live hook up with their offices but as my Australian timezone is so far out it's really hard to find the time. Also our internet is stupid slow.
My current work around is to stay in "Crop" mode when editing. As soon as I change the active tool to say the Hand Tool then the spinning wheel comes back. If I stay on Crop mode and the image is shown with the blacked out area the it runs a little quicker.
My guess is that the Intel GD card is not being supported correctly. When Photoshop CC18 came out it acted the same way as C1 does on my D5 files. Going into the PS preferences I was able to change the GD settings and all is smooth on that end again.
Fingers crossed more people that has these problems report this issue and C1 can find what's causing it.0 -

As Christian has mentioned, I've the exact same issue and the support team have tried but cannot replicate the slow-downs on their end. It's a little frustrating as I know the issue is there and have narrowed down specifically when it happens in which environments, but if the devs can't see what's going on then they can't help.0 -
Try to run capture one under different user account.. for example quest acc or so and check if the slowdowns persist 0 -
I'm running into the same issue but with version 10.1.2 on Mac OS 10.12.6. on a MacPro 2013 3.5ghz 6_Core 16GB Ram and AMD D300 vid card.
Since I work for a large corporation I'm stuck with the IT dept. responding to me about my issue.
It does not happen on the 2 other photographers here with the same COne 10.1.2 and Mac OS but they have 6-core machines with different configurations.
It happens at different times without any pattern on my machine. Between my IQ3 80 back and a Canon 5Dsr. But it also has happened when opening up a session with absolutely no files in the session. I've done what I can do here as far as new sessions, thrown out preference files etc. It can work flawlessly for a couple of days and then start acting up. Very frustrating to say the least. Was working fine while testing a setup for a hand model shoot and 3 exposures into working with the model, beach balls constanly.
Is anyone else seeing any issues like me? I need to bring something back to my IT dept. As the usual way things work, the issue never happens when they are able to come to see my system or log into it.
Thanks, Pete0 -

I regret to have to confirm that with almost anything I do the beachball will be there.
I am on MocOS Sierra 10.12.6 running on a MacPro 2x 2,93 GHz 6-core Intel Xeon (so a 12-core machine)
with 24 GB memory (1333 MHz DDR3) and an ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB graphics card.
It has just been getting worse with every upgrade lately. So sad, because intrinsically this is such a wonderful program. But it is becoming more and more of a pain to work with it.
The CPU being from Q1 2009, and the GPU not being supported by Capture One because it doesn't have enough ram, computer RAM running at half speed of modern ram, I think you need to get a new machine soon, or at least get a new GPU.0 -
You only have a very limited number of options for tower type Mac pro’s. I won’t be suggesting exact cards, but I am sure you find the Mac compatible cards. 0 -

Thanks for the reply Christian. I always thought this was a great machine (the best in its days) but yes time flies. It still works wonders for my Protools installation and other items but probably not for C1 anymore. Can you make a suggestion for the best possible GPU I could put in?
Thanks again, cheers, Bob.
I think there is an EFI update for some of the 2009 mac pros that allow you to install modern GPU's.0
