Importing Metadata from Excel/Deduping Images
Hello All!
I am a brand new user to Media Pro, who has been put in charge of a relatively large archive of digitized family photos that are spread across multiple hard drives. All of the metadata for these files (which includes a Unique ID, physical album, date, location, dimensions, color, people photographed, event depicted, type, condition and keywords) is currently stored in a separate xls file. Is there any way to automatically import this metadata into Media Pro and associate it with the proper image?
Also, because of the nature of the image storage and digitization workflow up until this point, I have numerous copies of every photograph after import. Does Media Pro have some sort of deduping functionality where I can remove duplicate files from a catalog, even if they were imported from several drives?
Thank you all so much and I look forward to hearing any response!

Hi
Go to Find -> Find Duplicate items0 -
Hello,
I also have the same question about being able to import metadata from Excel or CSV files. Can this be done, or does it require a script to be written to do the field matching?
To be clear, I have a bunch of photo information in a spreadsheet that I want to import and match to images imported into Media Pro. Abstractly, this would involve doing a field match so that every column in the spreadsheet is 'linked' to a field in Media Pro, so that when you do the import, each photo listed in the spreadsheet that also has a corresponding image in media Pro will be given the data from each record in a corresponding annotation field.
I would greatly appreciate knowing if this is something that can be done in Media Pro, or if not, if it is something that one can write script to do. If a script is the only way, do you know of anyone who has written a script to import metadata to annotations from a CSV or XLS file?0 -
Perhaps you could try Exiftool? I believe it can read data from cvs files and write it to xmp sidecar files.
