Thanks for that... but this is far for being the ideal workflow
This all story make me so upset!!!

Phase one gets political.... and we get screwed!

    Cheers

    How is that?
Using or not using Capture One is your choice. Purchasing a Pentax is also your choice.
I can understand that you WANT support for the Pentax if you use Capture One, however this is not supported.
As no one is forcing your hand here, I don't know that it's fair to say we screwing anyone.
We don't support many cameras, as we cannot support them all... in the wise words of Mr. Mick Jagger, "you don't always get what you want".

So how would you call someone that spent hundreds and hundreds of pounds buying C1pro and has invested hours and hours working on it knowing that the software is aming to help pro photographers
and at the end to discover that it wouldn't support for political reasons the 645 ??
    How would call that?

Supporting the Pentax would be the easiest thing since is using the same sensor like the IQ250 and it shoots DNG 2.1

I am just terribly disappointed !!!

    Cheers

I'm not sure what to call that. Unfortunate I suppose.

I can understand if you are disappointed but as the products you are using are your choice, we have done nothing to force the situation you may find yourself in.

Sorry but that's simply not true. A Noble uses the same engine as a Volvo SUV, but that doesn't mean one can be simply swapped for another. Each chip, just like every engine, is tuned for the applicable vehicle and dependent hardware (transmission, exhaust, etc) and one is not easily fit for the other.

Perhaps it's best if you simply contacted the sales department with your concerns and ask them to refund your Capture One Pro purchase. Looking into your account I can't seem to find one but if you get them the details directly they may be able to help you out of your predicament.

    Drew
I own license for Capture One pro 3,7 and now v. 8
I must say that it disappointing to see that Capture One wont support the 645z
Personally i am not looking for any specific Lens support or Tethering function.... just to be able to open and work all my images with this wonderful software would be enough

Some how i find hard to believe that you are supporting point and shoot cameras but you are not willing to add one to for a top professional Dslr which feature a standard sensor tech

Allow me to say that the only one loosing here are your customers

    Thanks for listening

Convert to Adobe DNG and you are all set! 😄

But you have a solution in Adobe DNG, you simply choose not to use it.

Drew, this is what i am actually doing at the moment and the mages in capture one look much better then in LR 😂
but its a bit of a pain to do so ☚ī¸

Look, i live part time in Copenhagen because my wife is Danish...I love Denmark and i love the mentality
You guys are always been among the most open minded company in the market.... but this story is a bit of a let down

I will be happy to lend you my camera if you need so.... jus to get a simple Ricoh generic profile (either Pef or DNG)
Would make the life of several users much easier!

    Thanks for listening

I'm an American. But I like Denmark too, that's why I live here full time. 😄
The Danes, however, are quite openminded but also quite practical... hence all the bikes. 😉
But, the fact remains that there is a clear solution for the conflict that you have and are asking us to implement support for a few users...too few.

And how many is that? If the numbers add up, perhaps things will change but for now you can happily use your Pentax files in Capture One once you convert them to Adobe DNG, and as you said yourself it does a better job than Lightroom. Seems like a winning combination to me. 😉

That was my guess reading the unswear i got from the support team:

    "Ettore,
    Thank you for your feedback.
We are familiar with the camera and there are many that would like to provide support for this camera. However, there is more than simply the desire involved in adding support and permission/agreements must be provided by the manufacures. As such the decision is in the hands of management for both Pentax and Capture One.
It is not know if/when support can be provided.

    Kind Regards,
    Phase One Suppor"

Pentax has given their answer since they are bundling with SilkyPix.

If you would have purchased a Phase One or a Mamiya-Leaf solution then you would have had Capture One.

Apologies but i don't see your point
C1 is widely used also by photographers which don't use medium format system....
Photographers which paid $$$ and committed their workflow to your product
In my opinion not supporting the Pentax 645z sends the wrong message to your costumers
What happens if Canon enters the medium format market...you won't support them to?

    Best to all

    Paul,

Have you asked Pentax about their position on this?

If not the entire discussion from the user side is, so far, based on assumptions.

    Yes I did!
    "DNG" was their answer

We all know that Phase One is intentionally blocking DNG form this camera..

I was with a friends that use Hasselblad system ... and with my great surprise i saw that Phocus (which is their free raw converter) supports the DNG files from the Pentax 645z!!

My are not assumption but facts...

Seem that this is facts in your opinions which makes them assumptions.

That DNG is a "all working universal format" is simply not true. So lets end that discussion here and now.
If you look at the 35mm Pentax we support, we support the PEF file and not the DNG file.

    Not entirely true
DNGs from the Pentax K-3 can be imported in to CO8 and they work just fine
while DNGs from the 645z are filtered off...
I am sorry but this doesn't look like to me an issue with the DNG not being an universal format and this is also why If you change the exif info of the DNG you can actually import the file

Phocus uses the iPhoto/OSX rendering engine to provide basic support for non-Hassy cameras. Whatever Apple supports, therefore, is what Phocus supports.

    This thread has become un-constructive.

We have always been clear in this regard, since the very first Capture One software.

We do support a vast range of small and micro format cameras.
With medium format we only support our own "Team Phase One" * camera solutions.

We have never misled anyone in this regard.
We have never changed or revised this policy.
Nor should anyone expect it to change.

If you want to use Capture One in your medium format solution, then purchase a Phase One or Mamiya-Leaf solution.

    This thread ends here.
Any new thread with the same topic will simply be deleted.

    * "Team Phase One" includes: Phase One, Leaf and Mamiya.
