Best hardware to run CO7?

    Hi

I probably won't buy the "best" hardware, but some info about what gives an extra boost and what not would be helpful.

For example from which types of videocard does it really help.

For example are the new AMD's (radeon 7000) card up to the new nvidea's and which are the "useful" minimum cards (7750,7770,7850,...) does 1 or 2 GB mem. makes a difference...

    Hi,

I have not changed graphic card since trying V7, but what I can say so far is

    - Opencl for "display" -> no visible speed-up.

    - Opencl for "processing" -> significant speed-up.

On a set of 50 60D raws ->tiff (with cropping, levels, curve, but most of the time no local adjustments)
    no opencl: 299s
    with opencl: 76s

    This is with a preview size of 2560, on a 2600K @ 4.6, consumer SSD and an HD7770 (1GB).
I imagine that performance should scale nicely on high end graphic cards...

Am I correct that you have no speedup when browsing and working on files (for example zooming to 100% and moving around t that resolution)?

    thanks

I hear the "Titan Supercomputer" gets close, although rumors have it that CO v7 is maxing out all 299 cores and it's also experiencing regular crashes 😂

    Alain,

Yes, I do not see any difference when moving around at 100% resolution, or applying a curve/levels for example.
My CPU is at 100% either way, which is a good thing in a way: I see much better use of multi cores in V7 than in V6.

    Come on PhaseOne.
Is it a public holiday where you are?

Maybe your support staff are taking a sickie?

Maybe you have sold out and the new guys don't have a clue what to do?

    Are the lights still on?
    Anybody home????

This is a USER to USER forum - Phase One's staff occasionally chime in, but that is the exception. If you want to speak to Phase One you should start a support case - every single one gets answered by Phase One, often within minutes, if not then within hours.

If you buy from a dealer then you can also call/email/visit them for such advice.

Here is an official guide to Open CL:
    http://www.phaseone.com/Search/Article. ... nguageid=1

That gives you some indications of which video cards might be a good choice.

Here are two articles on Capture One speed you might find useful. They haven't been updated specifically for v7 yet, but most of the articles apply equally to v7.

    http://www.digitaltransitions.com/blog/ ... r-upgrades

But as far as asking for specific hardware recommendations this is not something I see any software vendor do (adobe/microsoft) except for Apple (and their answer is of course always to buy an Apple - the best you can afford 😂 ).

Now at least I have been given something constructive to work with.
    Thankyou!

Sure you don't work for PhaseWon?

Thanks for taking the trouble to chime in.

    Thanks

    You were right!!

    Thanks

Contacted Tech Support about another matter and they responded within hours.

Gonna read the rest of the stuff you pointed me to.

    Have a great day
