Delete referenced images question

Just switched to CO 10.1.1.5. I am using a catalog with referenced images on an external HD. When culling images that are out of focus, etc., I would like to make sure they are deleted out of the catalog and also off the ext. drive. I deleted them using "Delete from disk", but can't see where the original images go? They do not go into the system trash or the catalog trash. It seems like in CO 9 when I did "Remove from catalog" it ended up in the system trash. Just want to make sure I'm not storing unwanted images somewhere hidden.
