"Hot folder"

Can anyone tell me the function purpose of the hot folder as im unsure what this does.. Is this in order to tether a DSLR ?

    Capture One Help, p. 47:
    5.4 Using Hot Folder
    If you have installed remote capture and control software for your 3rd
    party camera (see tips box) you can use the Hotfolder functionality to
    have captures appear almost instantly in Capture One. To activate this
    feature enable it from the Camera menu. Capture One 4 will automatically
    show the latest image added to the folders

    is there a workaround to use the "next capture adjustments" for the hot folder? that would be amazing for us sony users as if our raws are overexposed in every 3rd party converter.

    As far as I know there is no workaround. Love to see someone showing me I am wrong.
