Question working with C1 + Photoshop + Perfect Photo Suite

With CO8 (since 8.1) you can have the Edit with... command, which exports into Photoshop and automatically imports the image in the CO8 catalog.

I have no experience with PPS9 in combination with Photoshop, so you have to try that. The 30-day trial period should be your tool to iron out any issues.

Thanks, Paul - Good to know I would be able to Edit with... Photoshop from within CO8 and I assume I could do so after some editing in CO8 first.

I prefer to establish some basics before installing a 30-day trial version and really don't want to have to deal with any fundamental issues at all.

There is apparently already an issue with CO8 Tokens on Mac OS 10.10.3 - You can't use them? I am running Mac OS 10.10.3.

I do basically what you are referring to in my workflow. My normal processing is something like this using C1 8.2:

    1) Create a catalog and import my raw images into C1,
    2) When I need to do some external editing I use the Edit With functionality in C1 to export a tiff to whatever editor I need to use - Photoshop, Elements, Affinity Photo, PhotoLine or PerfectPhoto Suite (8 in my case),
    3) Saving the tiff from any of those returns the edited image to C1 which nicely and quickly updates the tiff thumbnail to reflect the changes from the external editor in call cases except Perfect Photo Suite 8.

There is an issue in the use of PerfectPhoto Suite 8 (and I am sure with 9 also) in that C1 is unable to properly read the saved tiff from that app. I assume that perhaps there is an included alpha channel that C1 can not deal with, so it is then necessary for me to use Open With to open the tiff in an editor like Photoshop, PhotoLine and so on and then re-save it. This corrects the problem.

So, in summary (CO = CaptureOne, PS = Photoshop, PPS = PerfectPhoto Suite)

CO Edit With (tiff) -> PS ->Save -> CO works well,
CO Edit With (tiff) -> PPS -> Save -> CO does not work. Returned image is not readable in CO,
CO Edit With (tiff) -> PPS -> Save -> CO Open With (same tiff) -> PS -> Save -> CO works well,
CO Edit With (tiff) -> PS -> PPS -> Save -> Save (from PS) -> CO works well.

I hope this explanation is clear. If not, please let me know.

Yes, you can use the tokens but they only display their label when you click on it.

....That's very helpful - Thanks, Mike.

I would try this workflow sequence :

Import from camera -> CO ->
First edits in CO -> further edits in PS via CO or simply use PS as a route to PPS (PPS being a PS plug-in) ->
Further edits in PPS -> Apply (Save) to automatically return to PS ->
Sharpen and Save (lose Layers) in PS which hopefully Saves back to CO still as a TIFF

So in other words, Photoshop is used as a go-between PPS and CO. Or is the Photoshop TIFF file is then unable to be Saved back in CO?

The question would be that editing in CO might render some editing in PPS unnecessary?

I have never had a problem with any tiff file saved by Photoshop being a problem in CO 8.2.

As long as the tiff is created in CO and sent to Photoshop, anything I do then using PS plugins, works in CO when I save it back to CO using Photoshop.

I use PPS only for masking since I find that I can do everything else just as well in PS or some other pixel editor (Affinity Photo Beta, PhotoLine, Elements and so on). And as long as I use Photoshop as the intermediary between CO and PPS it all works perfectly.

CO does not import images directly from a camera you attach. It connects cameras only for tethering, and tethered shots are transferred into CO.

One option is to use Apple's built-in 'Image Capture' to copy / move your images from your camera to your local disk first.

Another option is to use a card reader. CO can import directly from a card reader.
